It would be nice, but many guys, have commited offense unwittingly or by accident, and seems like you would like condemn them for life. Or like they wears a label in their head: This guy is an idiot.
I do not take it well.

Is something that gives me quite alike. But yes, spammers not deserve stay here.

Anybody can tell why is it that I can't find a high power (>300mw) red handheld laser?

All I find is around 200mw - 250mw, but I don't see anything greater than that such as 350, 400 or 500mw, while in other colors there are actually high power handheld lasers.

laser glow has some high powered hand held reds
this orion hv series goes up to 400mW @635nm
Laserglow Technologies - Handheld Lasers, Alignment Lasers and Lab / OEM Lasers

Wow is that new? The mod deleted it and it change the post count # of the posts after it to match so it is as if it never existed? ???

When c0ldshadow deletes something, it is a "hard delete." It disappears forever and all trace of it is gone from the forum. When one of the mods deletes something, it is a "soft delete." It stays in the data base and has the little "notice" left in the thread

I want a thread that keeps track of all the banned members, and maybe their banning offense. Hey Avery how about it?

Trust me when I say that there are too many SPAMMERS being booted for this list to be of much use. In addition, it could be problematic to make public all of the reasons that people were banned (especially temp-bans). Finally, it would create an additional "drama" point in the forum. There are no hard and fast rules about the ban time associated with each type of offense.

For example, how long should a temp-ban be for "cussing and fighting"? It is VERY dependent on how bad the cussing and fighting is. Did the member simply drop a couple of "F-Bombs" in a reactionary post or did they post multiple posts trying to hurt others members feelings and goad them into a fight? Both of those temp-bans would have "cussing and fighting" recorded as the reason for the ban. However, the former would get three days and the latter would get two weeks.

This would end up with member Johny's friends saying "Look! Fred only got three days for cussing and fighting. Why did Johnny get two weeks for the same thing?" Part of why someone is invited to be a moderator is that they have shown that they have a "level head" when making such decisions. I am absolutely sure that none of the mods wants to constantly be explaining why an action was needed when the person asking the question may not have all of the facts or may be prejudiced for or against a member.

We moderators, along with the admin, talk about a lot of stuff behind the scenes. Putting all of that out into the forum again will return us to the days of self moderation and flame wars. If member has a question about a particular ban, PM the moderators and ask. Posting the info in a thread is like placing a honey pot in a clover field.

Peace,
dave

I would never want spammers to be on the banned list. I only wanted legitimate members that have been around more than a week or two. The list would get cumbersome if all the temp bans were included, so I guess it would only be for permanent bans. It was only a suggestion as I've wondered a few times why a member is no longer posting only to find out they were banned. I guess I can just go to the horse's mouth and ask in a PM. What's the longest temp ban that can be dished out?

Honey pot in a Clover field bypasses the Bees...Very convenient.

If I may hijack this thread, by un-hijacking it, lol -

In terms of brighter (in appearance at least) red diodes that are usable (focusable) in pointers by us mere mortals, what's the next reasonable step after LOCs / 826s ?

HL63133DG over at a PL GB a while back looked nice (170mw 635).

I think that you can still get those over there from Francesco

Yep - you can - I chatted with her about that option. It's an attractive one for sure. The price tag hurts a bit, but it's reasonable.

Great suggestion :) The only glitch is that him and I don't get along very well... Otherwise I'd purchase that diode from him in a heartbeat!

(it looks like a steal!)

Although - I hear diodes from Canada run much cooler!

man i would love to have that diode, but i don't know the first THING about c-mounts.
I would have to have somebody do EVERYTHING for me. I wouldn't even want to attempt a $200 diode.
