Where does this wire go on my dorcy mod?

Making lasers are so frustrating! Last time I only got a weak red dot, so I ordered a new diode, but the results are same! I tried to quick fix the wire by wrappinng it around the spring thing underneath, but i think that's why the i need to budge the wire and press is down in order for the light to actually turn on. In the mean time, the battery sparks and gets really hot.

Where does the red wire go? And other than that, do you see anymore more mistakes i might've made?

It is a long time since I did a flashlight mod (I have never modded a Dorcy) but you appear to be soldering your LD to the LED heatsink, is that right? I have always discarded that and soldered to the circuit board underneath it on MXDL hosts.
Your battery is being shorted out if it is getting hot.

The photo is not very clear but I don't like the look of the wires to the LD, they are insulated aren't they?

Could you try to do some better pictures and post them?

Um.. actually the wires aren't insulated but I assumed they would never touch eachother. I am soldering the LD to the circuit board, (I think that's what it's called. It's a green circle with connections on it ) not the heatsink. What does MXDL mean?

I will post some better pics tomorrow when the light is good.
Thanks for helping me out.

Looks like your not using a driver. Which you should use. You can pick them up cheap in BST section of the forums.

yeah, are you using a driver at all?

what are you putting it into? is it a dorcy jr. build?

lol, that thing looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

some better pictures would help so i could see exactly what it is your doing.

According to Kenom's vid on Metacafe, the Dorcy already has a booster driver. I bought a preassembled driver from Stonetek a while ago but i was too lazy to even touch that. God I feel so naive!!

I will stay out of this as I have never used a dorcy, the MDXL is another commonly used flashlight host. The part you are soldering too is the LED emitter heatsink, on the MDXL you throw that away and build the driver on the circuit board that is in the host underneath it.....

It would be easier for us if you load the photo's up direct rather than using MSword;)

I don't see what resistor value you are using... you have a resistor sitting between the dorcy driver and the diode... right?

out of desperation I eventually just removed the ohm resister to see if that was the problem.

About the red wire, I think I should just cut it off. According to Kenom's "Memine" video on youtube.
