So I was pulling out the diode from the 48X DVD burner and I pulled it out and it looks extreamly odd!! no pins, just a circle of glass

now I'm sad :(

That is the lens, you are going to have to look under and around where you pulled that lens out to find the diode, it should have been pointing up through the lens, if not, there will be a mirror under the lens. Follow the mirrors reflection paths back to the diode. Hope this helps!

Haha!!!
you made me sooooooooo happy now!!!!!!!
There is a diode there!!!!
I was really really sad that I come out with empty hands!!!
thank you so much!
but there are no screws left, how do I pull the diode out and do I need to keep the lens? or when I put it in the aixiz module the lens of it will be enough?

You only need the diode out of the sled.

This is a 12x bluray sled. You can easily see the diode when you see three pins soldered.

sorry to burst your bubble but 48x would be the read time the write time doesn't go up that high whats the write time of your drive?

OK folks, I got the diode out!
but it's had a small peace of metal around it :S

that's the heatsink can you take a pic of the diode to see if its actually a burner diode it sounds like you have a DVD reader drive(player)

I just take two small pliers, grab either end of the metal and twist. (At least for PHR sleds)

The metal is really brittle so it should break, and your diode will pop out.

no no, I have a really really small metal peace, no way it's a heatsink
also, where talking about LPC diodes here, not blu-ray.

I think I need to desolder the diode from there.

the lpc 815 heat sinks are not brittle you will need to use a file on both sides the pry it apart moh has a good tutorial for this but first we must see a pic to see what you need to do

OK.
if I put 6V, using an MML driver, current set to 500mA, how much mW will I get considering it's a 48X?
I guess it will be more then 300mW cause thats what I get from 20X..

You have already been told.

The drive does not write with 48x speed.
it writes with 18-22x speed, depends.

Also, output power of the diode does not depend directly of the driver's write speed.

You have set too much. Use 400mA max.

so with 400mA how much mW will I get?
and thats it? I thoght I would get like.. 600mW at least!! :(

Through lens, 200-240mW depending on diode and heatsinking etc.

600mW of red, hah you wish. We were just THIS close to breaking 600mW with these new red diodes at 635nm, which cost $70 a piece.

Max they get is 505mW, though some freak diode shows up here and there.

In short, your diode will be 200+mW.

it doesnt matter :crackup::crackup:

we still don't have pics

or even know if you have a burner diode
