You have chart on the same site you linked us.
It is good for 400mA with good life, any driver will be good as long as it does it's job.

Type of driver you want depends on type of host you are going to use, and what batteries are you using, and many many current regulations circuits (drivers) are available to buy and make also.

Oh, and also,

hey thanks for the great welcome!
I was also wondering if I did use 400mA how long would I be able to use it at a time and how long would this diode last? given that i wont be using a heatsink unless someone knows were to get a very small one

some people make heatsinks for themselves ... i think there are a few
people here on the forum that are willing to make a heatsink for some reasonable money...

oh and welcome to the LPF ! ;)

Eudai---- (spelling corrected)

The "Welcoming Committee" ... Honestly, You have shown the calm and collected nature needed to answer all the redundant questions posted here without resorting to a "Please search here" page.
We all have helped the noobs but it does get old as you will find as you advance in this hobby.

Heh, thanks!

Well, yeah, I find the time to simply time a nice long answe that will get the OP started.

There are stickies and FAQ but you always must count that people do not have time, or any other reason, to read through ALL of them.

And I do not like to resort to [search] here, as I find the function not quite functional, you have to know EXACTLY what thread are you looking for.

Also, each new guy asking such questions here, ask a different question so I do not exactly type the same response every single time.

If you do direct someone to search button, at least help him what should he search for, like if someone asks what driver is best, it woud be nice to answer: Well, there are many types of drivers, try searching LM317, LM1117, FlexDrive, linear driver, boost converter.

Not simply tell him to use search, because he most likely does not even know what to search for.

I wish I had been spoon feed like that in my beggining days, I had to find out everything on my own more or less.

Thanks for the responce :yh:
but I think that those heat sinks would be to big because I'm trying to put it in an altoids tin and I am kind of on a budget...

You should have been with me 40 years ago building a CO2 from scratch -- then you would know research......... There were no spoon feeders anywhere.

40 years ago my mum was just about born, so ... :D

Anyhow, I am staying away from CO2 anyhow, I really like low voltage low amperage experiments, colored beams across my room and whatever I make - portable. Preferably in a nice shiny fancy host :D

But, I see your point, and I agree, it may be unfair that some members here worked their a$$ off to gain the knowledge, but I think it costs apsolutely nothing to pass it on just like that.
