I am looking for someone who has experience buying ebay green pen style lasers. I would like to know the best seller for quality, as I have noticed that although they are priced about the same the quality varies from seller to seller. If anyone has done some digging and could give me a link that would be great. Thanks:yh:

About what is your budget and what output would you like?
I think he,s asking about the $5 to $10 overspec generic. Op I believe they all basiclly are made the same in factory.s all over china and what ever the best deal the ebay seller gets.

Even from the same seller you are likely going to get different makes and variations of the same thing, for a while i bulk ordered a heap so i could play around with them (Lots of poor lasers died) and even from the same seller in one order i made come across three different types of modules inside the pens.

That just happened to be luck of the draw though Alex. If you ordered 10 of them they would be all over the place just like all the cheapos.
For actual pen lasers I have had the best luck with a couple sellers who have consistently (in the past at least) sent me ones that you could easily remove the top cap and adjust the lens if you want to see if you can get one strong enough to light a match. About the closest you can get one to focus before it will unscrew and fall out is 4-6 inches away.
Ebay sellers :
Cjy444
21buyinhere
Milliongadgets
Overfeel

Like I said though, I haven't purchased any 532nm pens in over a year.

I already ordered from The seller LedGroup on Ebay. I remember in the past getting some seemingly higher quality pens from them. Also, i have noticed that laser pens that come with diffraction attachments seem to be more staple, i guess so you can archive a consistent grid of dots. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also what is the highest power green laser i can buy cheap on Ebay. I know they come in a very wide range of powers, so if someone know where i could find the most powerful generic greenie on Ebay that would be great.

With ebay and cheap pen lasers it really comes down to luck more than anything. You'll probably get at least 10mW of visible 532nm, most likely around 30mW. Anything beyond that consider yourself lucky.

I've also had mixed luck with the non pen models, a few companies sent me samples about a year back, even though I told them I probably wouldn't have time to review them... as it turns out I didn't, but I did get around to lpming them. Despite them being advertised as 50mW, 100mW and 150mW, the best one hot only 75mW and wasn't very stable, one barely put out 20mW, and the "50mW" version was just ridiculously unstable, jumping from ~10mW to 40mW or so.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but you're better off buying from a known company, and paying for a specific power. O-like pens do actually tend to live up to their advertisement in my experience. The 50mW non pen lasers, with glued crystal would be my choice on a budget, of course you'll still end up spending way more than the $5-$15 you'd need to spend on ebay.

How about red and violet pens. I know they are often more powerful than the greeinies, and stable but less visible. I know they can come in different powers. I am looking for pen style pointers. Also, though less common than the greenies, you can get these with a diffraction grating, but i am worried they would be too dim to be very useful for this.

650nm, which is the most common red you'll find is actually quite visible, althought of course not as much as 532nm. At my place of work I can easily see 1mW of 650nm on a wall a couple feet away, and if I go into the freezer a beam is even visible!

As for 405nm, you'd need to start approaching 50mW for any chance of seeing it easily across a room :)

Stick to 532nm if you're after a visible beam. A red dot of 650nm is easily visible yet, but to my eyes, even 30mW of green, will produce a much more visible beam vs say 100mW red.

cheap and quality don't go well in the world of laser..... you get what you paid for..... if you can save up a little extra money like the $100 i bet a member on this forum can build you a green direct diode laser pen that is super stable and have better beam spec than generic 532nm geenie on ebay, and it will never die.
