Hmmm, interesting. However if these don't produce a nice round or semi round spot/beam, I'm not interested. High powered lasers need to have low divergence before I get interested in them. I like lasers for other things than just burning stuff. I prefer long distance and low divergence. I suspect that these diodes produce a spot like the 445nm blue laser, which is a large rectangle at 100ft. If so, pretty lame. Am I wrong about this beam profile?

No, you are right. I find it annoying too - but when you go outside and are able to shoot a red beam that is CLEARLY visible in the night sky, it is pretty cool.

Everyone has different angles in this hobby though. I prefer a nice, tight dot that I can burn with, but also looks nice and creates a nice tight beam.

Sometimes you have to take what you can get. If you want to SEE 650 at night, this is the diode to do it.

Now I have a 1+watt 635 from DTR that I'm waiting for the right host, but until we getsome good optics, it will have the same problem. But it will LIGHT UP the night sky because the RHD635 in my sig does, so I know 1+ watt willd do it!

Actually much worse than the 445.:tinfoil:

Unfortunately high power and low divergence are two characteristics that don't often go together when talking about laser diodes. Normally it is one or the other. With the exception of the 12X 405 and the new 3.8mm 660nm diodes and both of which are on the lower end of the visibility spectrum.;)

Yeah, but a properly driven 405 is still pretty cool. For a color that is so hard to see, it is particularly awesome to see the beam very visible in the night sky!

Of course, if I can get this seller to get back in touch with me I'm going to blow you all away with my next build...

Alibaba is so outta whack I'd put my money on those being 5mW IR diodes (or something of the sort)

It says they can provide 5000000000 pieces per day.... GB!

Yeah, knowing Alibaba they are regular LED's or plain diodes. I think that the Chinese believe that if they get you to contact them looking for one thing, they will sell you something. They list ANYTHING just to get you to look.

alibaba has the spammiest title on that page and page itself, couldnt they do something else like provide actual information on the product rather than repeat the same things over and over? ridiculous~!

true!!! alibaba is almost all full of scammers. I have dealt with them before. It can be hard to determine which one is real! BEWARE!

I'm rather curious how much different these look on the inside compared to the 300 mW version.

Maybe bigger die? Or, maybe more bond wires?

Not to be that guy, and these are a great discovery, and I'll be definitely making a build with these diodes, but could you PLEASE correct the title to "they're".

Interestly enough, I've used alibaba for flashlights and "neocubes" or "buckyballs" (5mm or 6mm round neodymium magnets that you can make fun stuff with) and had zero problems so far. I have never tried diodes though.

I have always wondered whether they really would withhold the funds from the seller if you filed a complaint.

It SEEMS like they have a good escrow protection program, but since I haven't had to use it, I don't know.

I will say that almost - but not ALWAYS - all of the time I order something from alibaba I find it competitively priced on eBay.

Or you could just get one from me for $110 and have it in a couple days in the US.:D

If you really want three it is $315.

Do you plan on keeping these in stock DTR? Or do you have a limited supply also?

I have 17 in stock out of the 30 I originally got and I don't think I will have any issues getting more stock when I run out.
