Is it stable enough to drive a laser diode? My initial questions regarding flashlight drivers were pretty firmly rebuffed. The general response was that they were too unreliable and unstable for laser diodes and would likely kill them.

How many 7135's does it come with and what current does it supply in default?

Is there a thread on how to change the 7135's? I would love a strobe driver.

On a more basic level, would a plain old linear drive these ok? I assume boost is out for a red. Buck is ok?

Thanks, I don't want to kill a $135 diode first time out!

You do generally want to stay away from flashlight drivers (mainly the switching ones) but amc7135s are stable and they work great for the 300mw 635 diodes. I'm sure they will work great for these diodes diodes too. There are a few laser drivers on here made with 7135s like rhd's IRON 4D.

It looks like that board has 3 on it so 3x350ma=1050ma. If you want more just connect another chip directly on top of one. The chips just connect in parallel, and each one you add adds 350ma.

Regular old linear are fine for these but require 2 batteries, buck are fine too.

Whant benmwv said, 3x amc7135's and on the board their is a spot for an extra one without stacking a amc7135, so you can achieve 1400mA really easy.

Id would chime in here and say no,the 639nm ML5CP50 is 8000mW but you can use it :)

So yes it is the most powerful red diode.

Very helpful post, thank you and Fiddy too!

These "problems" have been around for a long time with open can red diodes

We seem to have gotten along just fine ;)

Peace,
dave

I actually prefer open can. No annoying diode windows to get in the way of the coherent goodness.

Hi. Lazeerer.

Thanks for the good info. +1 rep
Is the pinout of ML501P73 is the same as 635nm 300mW(ML520G71)?

I tough these diodes are case-neutral ?
LPC-815/826 are case-negative.

Yes it is pretty, just got it successfully lasing in a Ultrafire C2 host @ 1400mA with a 16 mode driver :)

It is bloody bright indeed!

Only draw back is that ive seem to have lost my heatsink set screw :( will make it now :)
