Well here is what I got so far. They are some tough bastards. I ran it for 20 minutes on 5A with it just bolted to a heatsink out of a M140 projector. I paired it with a lens out of the panasonic projector.

Here is my pretty haphazard rig.

My Ophir is down at the moment but I can say it maxed out my Laserbee II.

Thanks for the test.:) They are beefy.:p

Hey that Pan lens is way to short of a FL.

Knowing you iam sure you have a few Projector optics laying around.

Here are some Pictures of lens that will work for "Fun" Purposes and you will get a very nice beam.

Here is Dave's Picture of the H1600. The Bottom Right Large optic make a very very nice beam Just make sure you center it:

Or the A140 projector optics: The One one the left will give you a nice beam for playing too. The Other 2 optics that look like Aspheric will also give "OK" Beams.

Try them. They are ~ 40-60mm FL or something and give off a very nice beam.

Awesome guys awesome :)

This is a whole new level in the laser hobbyist level. Such solid 4W 660nm diodes for $375 is a steal! Think I´m not the only one who is willing to purchase one of these ASAP. Can´t wait for the first preview shot of your new driver

Hey Guys,

For anyone that is Curious i took a picture of 3 different power 650nm Diodes.

In the Picture bellow from left to right is:

500mW - 1000mW - These diodes

500mW 650nm C-Mount Vs this diode:

1W 650nm C-Mount VS this diode:

As you can see No comparison to cheap reproductions.

Some might not know but in china they do make alot of Knock off laser diodes. There is nothing wrong with that and most of the time the function just fine but are UN reliable. I bought 6 of the 500mW 650nm diodes. Spec sheet said MAX 1.5A and 4 popped before 1.1A However when chilled this diodes where able to hit ~ 800mW-1W OK However man the beam is Ugly. Its much larger then the diodes i show in this thread. I keeped the other 2 to use.

Same for the 1W diode. I was surprise to see that the 500mW has 6 bond wire and the 1W has only 3. But the die is bigger so yeah. Beam is a little worse then the 500mW diode. The Max Currant for the 1W was 1.5A Oswell. So yea dint sound right.

One big issue i found was the FAC where terrible The size of the FAC was not properly matched to the size of the die.

I remember this was extremely important when talking with the guy that did our Mitsubishi G71 638nm diodes. He first put on a Thin "For simple terms" FAC and it was Not correcting the beam that well and then moved to a thicker one and made a big difference.

Whatever FAC is put on these 5W 650nm diodes is dead perfect for the die. I cant believe the beam next to the 500mW 650nm diode.

Anyway, Just wanted to show the big diffrence in the die quility and the overall diode.

Ill take much nicer shots tomorrow when i get up of just the 5W diode.:) Iam tired going to bed soon. 4am

PLEASE NOTE: Iam sure there is more then just these 2 500mW and 1W 650nm diodes available but these where purchase from ebay and china sellers so pretty much this is what you see floating around but not limited to just this.

Man that is freaking sick. Total "death ray" appearance. I might have missed it but what is the ballpark price of these diodes? I know the source is hidden, but what is the intended application? PJ I assume. I wonder if the price will come down any.

$375 ea 1 week lead time Sig :)

~ Lb

Correction,

$375 was the sample price i got for 5 of them to try out with a larger order i placed for other diodes. Those 5 are gone.

They are a little more then that at regular price and will not come down. Not because iam bumping it up but thats what they cost.

If you go back a read you will see i said that several times.:)

I would have liked all to have seen the beam with the 60mm lens around 5'' away, it what the best looking red beam I have seen and that was at 2w
