It really all depends. Probably your most Average build would go for ~$700 with a decent priced host.

I do need 650 beyond my Raman 
This will be my next laser, it's decided.
I'll look at large hosts for it, and speak to Crouse about an HS.
Is the 2 driver method acceptable with these? With 2 of your drivers with soft start, how to the starts work?

You need a Case Continuous + driver.
Or you must insulate the diode from the case Which is not hard to do.

Rather then using 2 drivers i would use 1 X-Drive since they can do 3A.
But to use an X-Drive you must insulate the diode from the case like i mentioned.

Want to read my rant's about it.
I flipped a shit. It was the first package i ever lost and it had to be something that was 300$.LOL
I dont care for the money but the simple fact that the post man that did my route that day was his first day on the streets and he said he delivered it. Which is a Lie as i got the mail seconds of him leaving. I just hate people who lie.
(I think he keeped it or delivered it to the wrong house and lied so he doesn't loose his job.) I rained hell at the post office. I was so mad and still am. I told the seller i will pay fully for the second one but he said he will give me a break on it and if the first one turns up to return it. Its pretty messed up. Ive lived here my entire adult life. All the post man know me and all the people that work at the post office no me because i get so many packages a day that they sort or i ship.
lets just say they never seen that side of me.
Speedy they where under $800 for a complete package that included everything Glasses batteries warranty etc... The hosts used where 100$ hosts. Ill post picutres if they give me the OK.
Probably a mis-delivery. I don't know what a post man would want with a spectrometer.
My post man mis-delivers a lot, but luckily nothing valuable yet. My neighbors will usually return my mail, so hopefully the spectrometer shows up!

No doubt $425 is a lot of money.
But considering the power and the wavelength it´s a pretty decent price IMO

It is more than reasonable if you can sling the dough. If not then I have some LPC-826 diodes I would be happy to sell
I am going to put a price list together as well, but will be unable to actually build one for awhile. Do you think this source will stay for awhile? I know sometimes diodes get discontinued....

People are confusing what they can afford to what the value of the diode is.

No doubt $425 is hard to "Afford" I for sure understand that. But the diode is a killer deal and well priced.:wave:
Most are making is sound that the diode is over priced. Which is far from the truth.:undecided:

The way I see it is those that see the value and can afford it will buy them and those that don't won't. Not worth trying to educate or justify. It is what it is. Most of these diodes so far have been purchased by laser projector companies which makes sense as they have a good understanding of what we are looking at here and the funds to buy them. The only unfortunate part is if they buy them all up and we don't get to see some crazy handheld builds.

I think I am going to do one of these actually. I have lots of stuff I can sell to make the money up. And I have an idea for the design which will be sick!!!

Lazeerer, if I get up to my knees in this project, and I find that it is beyond my skill, could I pay you to finish it? I have heard nothing but the very best about your building abilities and I hate to risk >500 dollars of parts for simple bragging rights.

Just to clarify:
- Diameter of the linked Thorlabs Lens is 1/2"?
- Also, should the gap of 50mm be from the front, middle, or back of the diode?
- Would a retaining ring for the lens(to pinch it between the retaining ring and a lip) risk damaging the lens?
- The host I will have machined will be quite beefy, would 3.8A be too much with a beefy heatsink?
- Do you have a buck driver that can handle 3.8A? I read the whole thread but I don't know if one exists or if it is still being designed.

I just purchased the lens(small cost compared to everything else, but it makes me feel like I am getting there). I also contacted MrCrouse and Ehgemus to get quotes. I cannot even imagine 3W of red!
