Sky 650nm 1Watt Beam

Gentleman

i know i am new here but i think i have an issue that require some expert advce.

I bought a made for me Sky 650nm 1watt.

i am highly dissapointed, it is no were near the visability of my 450mw 635nm
wolfemanbuilt stainless steel. the beam itself is barely visable like a pen pointer almost. it does project far but i'm about the beamage at night.

it also hardly burns......and the beam spot is recantuglar similar to the 445nm
square up close.

Is this to be expected? i cannot load pics at this time..however any input on this matter would be helpful.

i know there is a visual perception difference witht the high 6xxnm lasers

Sky is such a good company., i just think i made a mistake with getting a 650nm.

The 650nm-660nmm wavelength diode are darker red color but 1 Watt 650nm beam should be visible at night. Without a LPM it is hard to guest the output. How much current does the laser draw from the battery ? Measure it at the tailcap.

The high power reds are also multimode. The dots are bar shaped and not round.

It's actually more around 660nm, not 650nm. It also probably uses a C-Mount diode, which usually has worse beam specs. The brightness and burning sounds about right.

Hmm.

the c mount diode explaination sounds feesable. the square upclose is 5mm x5mm

yet the longrange beam spot is better than my 450mw 635. ( the 450mw focuses a tigher beam also rectangular not square upclose)

i have to invest in a LPM and Multimeter , i've been a collector upto this point.

I figured 1 w would be highly visable. i guess the price should have told me something when compared to the 635 pricing.

Edit;

i can actually focus the beam tighter upclose and it burns better but then the longrange beam is not sharp. almost like it LED'd but i am able to refocus it and it becomes tight again.

with all my lasers.....they are all set on infinity.....giving me the tightest upclose and distant beam spot.

Does this still sound normal for a 650 c-mount 1 watter?

The first ring is the aperture ring. It should open and close the laser front hole. It is one of the FDA feature. Yours must be missing a shield to block the beam.

You should get a multimeter. You can get a low quality one for really cheap now, and it's got so many uses. Everyone should have one in their tool kit.

i'm sorry i was looking at it from the battery end,1 aperature ring 2, focus ring 3 lens ring( the shutter opens and closes)

looking at the laser as it would be held and pointed away.

inexpensive to say the leasst.

Still though..you honestly think this unit is OK based upon my limited description...i mean it was made to order. ( it has my name on the label)

i just can't fathom a 1 watt being this unremarkable. i guess what i'm hearing is the c-mount and wavelength are responsible regardles of mw? Of all my lasers this produces the least visable beam. I don't think the night sky will make much difference as i can get it pretty dark in the house.....but i'll try it of course.

Are you using anysmoke or fog? What MW?

my beam spot looks like the one on the left so that IS a SKY

actually i have less splash but i can't see the beam.......ARGGG!!

just a fiant thin get behind the laser and lok for it....little 1 watt nothing.

At least the Video Music was upbeat.. it lightend my mood...lol

Please tell me your using some fog or smoke.

There was some fog yes.
Video was taken outside.

I'm not so sure about the ''No way'' remark.
This is afterall 1W were talking here.

When i do this inside i pritty much get the same effect.

Ok don't fiight......i tried to set up a similar set up in a closed hallway and storm shutters closed lol

i got no beam.....well a little...maybe the contanimants in the night sky would make it more visable.....my dig kodiac camera is useless for beam.....but spot is another thing.

What MW and i assume and know it is set on infinity right?

Yes it looks like that (first picture) with my eye's.
It's shot with ISO 100 so the camera doesn't oversature it.

If it helps, i'm looking towards the beam, not from the beam.

Focus = infinity
mW = 1000 on both
