Running an LPC-826 at 460 mA?

Would it be a bad idea to run this at 460 mA? I see some that say around 400 mA is max, while others are pushing them at 560 mA...

I have run my LPC-826 at 500mA for some time now. No ill effects what so ever.

keep it under 500 , if Blord's diode can take 400 + ok watever but he never told yu for how long right ?

now my question , 1 day or 52 weeks ?

Unless you're paranoid about soldering on a new diode, I say go nuts. If you blow it, your out what, ten bux?

I build the lpc-826 in a Aurora C3 host and I am playing it regulary. I have an other diode as reserve but I didn't need it so far.

mine made 384mW at 550mA, it died with less than 1 hour of beam time.

sometimes it luck of the draw, ive had em die way earlier than 500mA before.

This can live so long only if you get lucky.. At this current you have a little to no room for the voltage spikes that could make their way to the diode, keeping in mind a little cap is taking care of that but it's just a matter of time when a spike sneaks through and is enough to break it..
It so happens, sometimes i guess!! in normal testing/experimenting of the red diodes i find it very strange that even with a nominal current of 345mA and proper heatsinking using a LM1086 driver (with no cap) you can actually kill the diode following the duty cycle 1min off 1min off..

It all depends on the quality of the work you have done..
The soldering , the host designing and wires arrangement.. Although its not a rocket science but one has to follow the SOP's of laser building which in my opinion are just as sensitive as a laser diode itself..
That's the only reason the LD's die before they are supposed to..
An output cap is fairly necessary , because of several reasons one of which is the cheap batteries and a cheap quality clicky switch..

I had mine build with a Flexdrive. It was smallest driver that fits inside the C3 host.
I suppose the Flexdrive will take care of voltage spikes, overcurrent, overheating etc.
Maybe that is why it survives so long.

So are you saying the Flexdrive works better than say, other micro-boost drivers as well? I would imagine other drivers in that price range should also take care of voltage spikes & overcurrent, since that's really a major issue.

What do these generally pump out when pushed to ~500mA ranges? I'm guessing ~350mW based on Fiddy's post, but I'd like input from those who've done it at 500 =]

My thoughts exactly, I'm planning on pushing these to 500mA in a Kryton, and just having 4 or 5 spare diodes. It's not like 205's back when 12X's were new and you were out $200+ on a blown diode.

Mine is hitting 290mW at 500mA with a red AR coated acrylic lens. I don't know what lens Fiddy use for his lpc-826 laser.

my red has a mohgasm driver set at 548ma (i think) and i get about 350mw with a g-1 on a good day. this diode has lasted. i had a "kill the 826's" thing going for a bit, due to my ineptitude and weak diodes, but it seems sorted out. i like lotsa single mode red:beer:
