Does anyone have some tips on extracting the LCC diode in the ggw sled from its heatsink? The metal seems to be really tough and a pair of pliers hasn't worked. I am afraid of using any more force since the ir diode (which I was also trying to remove) was destroyed when the glass lens broke.

Take a pair of small "nippers."

Cut through the heat sink at the two little "nubs" in the circle

If you cut through all the way to the edge of the diode on both sides, you should be able to simply "lever" out the diode with the point of a small knife blade at the cuts

Check this video out. YouTube - How to harvest a LOC diode from the LPC-815 sled.
Just do that with a file and then pry the heatsink apart. Just be careful when you pull the ribbon off because if you put your solder on the pins for too long, it will burn the diode out

so after finding out i harvested the IR instead, i went for the LCC, well i put an hour and a half of continuous work into it, an nothing, i think its beyon harvesting now, i filed down several edges, used snippers, pliers, needle noses, and nothing. so i had enough of it, i will try one more thing after i take a break, if that doesnt work
i will send this diode to someone for FREE, just pay me the price to ship it to you, maybe someone else here will know how to do it, but keep in mind with all the fileing and snipping it may be impossible to get out now.

Send it to me. If we can save it, we will. I'll PM my address to you.

just came out! sweet! thanks Dave, that was very generous of you!!!
I exposed the diode lip and pried it out with a screwdriver.
