If you remember, I bought a DinoDirect green laser for the housing. I had a project-------------- I did post a review of the laser in the review section but I wanted the + rail driver.

Here is the Cmount and optics housing parts with lenses which I machined. This Cmount is TEC cooled if you notice the white chips in the gap.

This is a 635 nM diode rated at ~ 0.5 Watt.

The driver is now mounted and I have to do finish assembly with the 2-56 screws. I can cool the head to 17 Deg C but this is short duty cycle because the head needs to dissipate ~ 8 Watts of heat.

I may post more when I get the time to come here.

IT'S ALIVE!!!!

Always love to see your projects, Hemlock, they're usually pretty awesome, this one definitely so. What kind of beam are you seeing out the front, with the corrective optics in place?

@Prototype ----
The beam is square. I'm still working on optics and allignment running just above threshold. A simple expander with low X. -17 mm diverger and +25 mm output -- KISS !!!

That's terribly neat, Hemlock_Mike!

I like the active cooling! So the peltiers are mounted right behind the diode and sucking
heat from the front and pumping it towards the battery compartment, right?

Are those heatpumps driven in any clever way or is it just full throttle all the time?

Anslem ---

This is a portable and there isn't room for 2 drivers. The TEC's are driven almost full throttle at 1.05 Amps ~ 4 volts. All heat is dumped into the body including the driver and LD heat. This Dino driver is unique in that it has a thermal sensor to fold back current. I now have it in the PS section but plan to move it to the LD platform where it should be.

HMike

I'm still working on optics but I measured 1.5 x 1.5" square at 16 feet.

This is awesome Mike. I'm looking forward to the completed product.

This will be interesting :) btw where in the world did u get a 500mw 635nm red diode from OMG thats awesome!

Hemlock - any luck getting it focussed into a usable beam?

I've got a 635 C-Mount that can do almost that much (max of ~ 380mW), and even with a FAC applied, I couldn't manage to pull off the optics :(

High power 635's aren't uncommon. However if your used to the single mode 660's... you will be HIGHLY disappointed with the beam specs of the high power 635's
