I would like to ask who has successfully built this diode - I need to know it can withstand 2.5 ampslanji jld6550z laser diode 650nm 500mw laser diode

500 mw? At 650 nm? 700 mw to 1 watt 638 nm would be my choice due to greater perceived brightness and easier package to mount the diode.

I wonder how hard that diode can be pushed. It might make it to 1 watt. I think if I were trying to build a high power 650nm C mount build it would be a much higher power, though.

Maybe, but that 638 nm Oclaro can and at a brighter WL for cheap. How much is that C-mount 650 nm?

I bought my near 1000 mw 638 nm Oclaro pointer already built, don't know what driver was used in it but I bet if you contact DTR he has a driver which will work:

HL63193MG Specs:
Some push to 1000 mw but is rated at 700. I've never had problems with mine at 940 mw out of the lens.

650 is OK but 638 nm is very cherry! I'll never buy 650 if I can get as much or more power at 638 nm.
