i am building my first laser and my parts are in the mail, havent recieved any yet though,

1. dr lava flexdrive v4 400ma
2. red 16x sony pre fitted diode in aixiz module
3. dorcy jr. flashlight
4. new v2 full body heatsink
5. 1 cr123 lithium non rechargeble batterie

sould be a fun build but i dont have alot of experience, anyone have advice or how many mw i should expect? thanks

Are you sure it's a 16X? If it is, then 400mA is too much current for it. If it was a long open or long closed can diode you would be OK. Back when I was using 16X's I limited the current to 300mA

thanks daguin, if i got a preset current can i adjust it when i get it, and am i going to have to or can i have a shorter duty cycle?

I'm sorry. I'm not sure what you are asking here

You should be able to readjust it. However, you will need a dummy/test load and a DMM to do so. Simply shortening the duty cycle will NOT take care of the problem.

like what would the equivalent be,16x or 20x or am i being to optimistic
also how many mw could you get from them, and at what amperage

The long closed can diodes are very similar to the long open can diodes (20X -- 22X). I have one in my personal Kryton Groove being driven by a flexdrive at 500mA. It is putting out 305mW after Virtual Village acrylic lens. I don't recommend that you run it that "hot." However, they are very capable of 250mW at 420mA. I have sold many modules with long closed can diodes being driven at 410mA.

Peace,
dave

It's been awhile since I ran one of these. However, IIRC it was around 200mW

16X at 300mA is around 200mW :)

Just built mine about a Month ago and it is still running strong.  I only used the boost driver that was already in the Dorcy Jr.  Normaly it put out around 800mA.  I added a 5ohm resister and brought it down to 200mA.  I am happy with it's output. I am thinking about putting in a 3.2ohm resistor though.

This Forum has a ton of information to help you with your build.  I read it from start to end before I built my laser!

Yes, It can light a match with ease.  You do, however, have to focus it in order to do that, which was rather to be expected to me.  Also, I can burn anything that isn't white.

As for the beam, It is not visible during the day.  You can see it at night, but it is very hard to spot it unless you are the person holding the laser.

FYI:  The 660nm Red is hard to see.  Basicly, if you want a cool looking beam, you are going to need fog, or smoke.  My 15mW green lasers has a brighter beam!!

If you ment see the dot durning the day, the answer is yes. ;)

so if im a few feet away from my friend and hes shining the laser in the sky at night should i be able to see it?  just a little dissapointed in what i ordered because i was expecting a solid beam at night but the burning part sounds good,

thanks, also mine wil be a 300ma, yours was a 200ma?
