if its cutting tape it's obviusly focused. Try different matches. In my experiencie the color of the match head changes the whole situation.

I suggest you the ones with brown head ;)

i built the driver with the 2x10ohm
and 100ohm pot
and 16mf 16v cabal
and the battery is 7.2v liPo
maybe i need to change it?

^ Your driver has a pot. Remove the diode and connect a test load and adjust the ouput, it could be that your driver is not supplying enough current. If its a LOC diode, 420ma will give you tons of power.

Maybe just the type of chemical mix in the match head ..... some so-called "safety matches", as example, light up only if exposed to an open flame, or rubbed against their own ignition strip (that contains also chemicals for react, not just abrasive), but not light up if just heated or rubbed on normal surfaces.

Try some different brand, too.

Hi,
this is Tony from Italy.
I have the same driver, with a short closed can diode, it wasn't lighting any matches at full pot it was drawing 225ma.
I inserted a 3rd 10 ohm resistor in parallel with the other two, to get 3.3 ohm resistence. The power at full pot with the short can is 350-360ma,
focusing a tiny point with glass lenses recovered from an old 35mm camera, it burns all kinds of matches.
It requires a good heat sink, it will get hot in 10-20 seconds.

I did a try with a Long closed can, where the can god damaged. I de-canned it, carefully cutting with the exacto knife all around, and that sucker was super strong, and efficient compared to the short can. Unfortunatly my happiness didn't last long, because I made a cold solder joint, the positive wire came off, while in operation and then made contact again, with the capacitor charged... instant LED.

you mean you are not using any heatsink?

you will def fry it without a heatsink.

I make mine from aluminum and a home made cnc router/mill.

I guess the aixiz will do for 10-20 seconds duty cycle....
but let it cool before firing it again.... it's addictive...
