Its still pretty cool, i wouldnt call it a waste of money for less than $50 you can get yourself a nice <250mw red. And you can have a visible beam in very dark conditions.

True enough! I may just have to buy one anyway. On that subject, how serious is DealExtreme about not shipping >5mw lasers to the US? Are there any other reliable places us US citizens can purchase these weapons of terror? ;-)

Try o-like. They have several varieties of the 200mW red handheld, they also still ship to the US in a plain envelope. They are considered a good supplier by many members of LPF. There is also Rayfoss.

Back on topic I realized that 2400 mW of Red would definitley not be equal in beam visiblility to 200mW of green. It would have to be closer to 12W of 635nm if the ratio is truly 1:60.

Is there a burning diode out there in the 645 nm area as opposed to the typical 660nm diodes found in burners? If I recall correctly, the phazor diodes were something like 642nm right? If so, is it still possible to buy them?

I want a bright-ish red pointer, so any wavelength advantage I can get would be a beautiful thing.
