Red 350mw diodes

I am trying to get pricing on 350mw Red 650nm CW diodes. I would like to figure out if anyone would be interested in a "group buy" type situation. Where I find out the prices, we split it up by however many are "in" on it - and that would determine the price for each unit. That is probably the only way I can get the diodes is if I buy 100 or more of them - maybe even close to 1000. This is still in its' planning phase, but just a general interest poll - would you be interested in a group buy, or not ?

Color me all over this one! That would be AWESOME. I'm assuming there will be technical specs available? You might want to post this in other fora (CPF. Photon Lexicon, Laser Community et al) to raise more interest?

I'm looking for at least 50 >300mW 650nm diodes to put in my new cases. I'll be selling them too. Cheaper than a pulsar if possible.

Very good - so there IS interest here...as this was/is my first home, I wanted to leak the offer here first. As soon as I get the details, I will post them - I will be getting these from Rohm, as I do actually have a good contact there, but they are a LITTLE lax in getting back to me swiftly. I will be pestering them tomorrow, though - so hopefully more info to follow soon....then the word will be released t othe other forums as well ! By the way - for those that may not know, these diodes are actually the ones that are REPLACING the 100mw CW/240mw PW diodes used in DVD burners at this time.....The previous ones have been discontinued, as drive speeds have increased, the power of the diodes have had to increase, too - SO....Next gen DVD drives will be featuring this diode soon. (Small tidbit of info for you....detailed specs to follow)

I stuck my neck in and said yes. Like the man from Del Monte ;D
I'm none to clever on collminating them so i want it all sorted just to plonk in my project.

SO sweeeeet!

Proctor, just curious, would you be willing to sell a few sets of the optics to those who are DIYing? If not, no problemo.

Check out Aixiz.

My lasers will probably cost under $200 and have features/looks like no other company. ;)

Only thing is, it could be a few months yet though. And I might sell them directly to lucentoptics.

I just had a thought. If the light from these diodes is linearly polarized (most are), then by combining the beams from two of them with a 90 degree polarizing beamsplitter, a homebuilt CLASS IV laser (+500mW) may be realized! Muahahahahaaaa!  ;D

Most likely 100% duty cycle.

I'm somewhat interested, but any chance you have some more info? IE, just a general price range and some basic info on the diodes? I'm wondering if the 350mW is supposed to be the CW or pulsed rating. I know there are spec sheets on 240mW pulsed reds for DVDs that also CW, but only rated for 100mW (You could probably get much more out of it with good cooling, but then again you could get even more from a true 240mW CW). Do you have a link to a spec sheet by any chance?

Lucent Optics has indicated in threads at CPF that they were looking into red high power lasers, possibly Proctor is (one of) their potential source(s).

I could easily be wrong, but from what I know of lucentoptics I'd bet they're talking about the Orions on Laserglow (>200mW 660nm PGL units). In bulk they might be able to get an okay discount on those, though I don't really like them at the price they're worth.

No kidding, especially with a divergence spec of 1.5-2.2mrad! Bleah!

I will be able to post the "techie" stuff tomorrow - this is straight from Rohm - so it MAY be on their website - I WILL post more details - I have no cement idea on prices yet - but hopefully I will be able to get them low enough to make it worthwhile to dabble !! This is no "BS" offer, either - I have been working with them for a while, trying to get everything perfect - the diodes are spec'd out at 350mw CW though - not pulsed.
