Does anyone know who makes red laser pointers in the 10-30mw range? I don't know how to build..

Fotons,

I would suggest learning to build one. Get a diode from a DVD burner, one of the Group Buys on here, or off of ebay. Then an LM317 driver is easy to build. There's a nice tutorial about this by DDL (Daedal). Or, if you want to get going even faster, and learn to build drivers later...just buy a rckstr driver, or Lavadrive.

You could run a high powered (100-200mW) red diode at diminished current to meet your 10-30mw spec and it should last a very long time.

Red lasers are something I haven't fooled with yet myself, but I sure have run across a lot of great information thanks to the knowledge and experience of many of the generous folks on here! I know when I make my first red projects they will be cake!

Why only 30mW?
I have a high power green so I don't care about HP in red as it's no comparison to green in power but I did find a 50mw red at skylaser.

How is red no comparison to green in power ? don't you mean brightness ? :-?

Yes, natural selection endowed our vision with a greater sensitivity in the 532nm region than in the 650nm...but don't let that fool you...a 200mw red is powerful, and potentially hazardous in the hands of the inexperienced (or those who haven't bothered to learn the particulars of the EM spectrum and its effects on the eyes of mammals).

Goggles are another reason this is an expensive hobby.
