Question about a module I bought

So I bought some modules hoping they'll burn stuff or at least pop balloons and stuff. If it doesn't I guess that's OK sense they were cheap anyway. The description on ebay said they're (650nm 6mm 5V 4mw mini laser dot diode module red copper tube head) so I guessing this will burn decent sense I think a 452nm blue laser can burn stuff. At least I think ITS A 452nm or something like that blue laser diode can burn stuff. Anyway mine is a (650nm 6mm 5V 4mw mini laser dot diode module red copper tube head) or at least that's what the description said on ebay for them. Anyway answer this "Will this diode burn stuff?" Question in yes or no. THANKS

TL;DR: No

Assuming the description is truthful, no the diodes will not pop balloons. It isn't the wavelength that really matters, plus it gives you the wavelength in the module description, it's 650nm (red), not 452nm (blue). It's the power of the laser that matters. The power of your module is 4mw, which is not adequate for doing anything other than pointing

. You'll need at least ~30-35mw of power to pop a dark balloon. Also, do some research on your own, people here can get mad at you if you ask too many questions that have already have been answered a billion times.

Ok but sense I already ordered them do u think the lens in the module would be pretty good or would I just need to buy a Aixiziz or whatever the module is called. I also heared that if u have a magnifying glass (I think the one that has a smaller round magnifier near the bottom) u can point a regular laser through it and light a match. I think crazyrussianhacker may have done a vid. On this

anyway I got like 5 laser diodes from a PC but I dunno if it was a DVD burner diode anyway I know there is a infrared and then u got the regular one and I also know that a Blu-Ray diode is better.

No, it will probably be a very cheap lens. Worth keeping though, just for messing around. Focusing the beam down with a magnifying glass will focus the power down to a point, but it won't increase the power. If you could find out where the other diodes you have were from, you would probably have better luck with those. Keep in mind you will still need to buy a driver and a new lens, the lens from the red module you asked about may melt. I would recommend buying an Aixiz module. In the video you referenced, he does not specify the output of the laser, and it already has poor divergence.

What do u mean by driver? I don't want it to cost a ton and I don't care about extra junk and I want it to be a small laser. As big as a regular keychain laser if possible.

I just tested a diode (no idea if it's a DVD burner one but ok) but yeah I tested it and it showed Red light

Could be a future candidate for the club. Let's see now, tested a diode how? Without any idea of the wavelength or power. And no glasses I'm guessing.

Note to the OP: DVD burner diodes are not toys. They need to be treated with respect. If you fry a diode you can always get another. If you fry your eyes you're SOL.

A keychain size laser is too small if you want it to pop balloons or light a match and burn stuff. A laser that size can put a nice bright dot on the wall but that's it. Not enough battery power or heat sinking in something that small.

Thanks for all the info. My dad said that we could have a DVD burner in our shed outside in a box. If not then maybe I'll just go to a PC repair shop.

By the way, I'd like to ask a personal question, are you under 18 years old? If you are, best clue your dad in on your plans. These diodes can be dangerous to your vision and more if you don't handle them safely.

We'll probably both make it. Ik lasers are dangerous cuz they can damage ur eyes really bad. Also why do ppl set a age limit on things as if there saying you'll die if ur under age. No offense.

me and my dad both like burning lasers but never really had one that's why I'm asking sooo many question just to be safe with how stuff works so I don't blow something apart.

LoveDemBurningLAZERZ, Look up some more information WITH your dad. (i.e. How do lasers work, Laser safety checklist etc.)
Chances are he will understand a bit more than you, and may catch something you didn't. It's good that you're asking and not
just doing, but all of the questions you have asked have already been answered online. I'm not trying to discourage you from
asking questions, but look it up first. That way, you'll have your answer faster, and you won't have a bunch of angry vets getting
on you about searching first

But my dad idk if he would know more about lasers than me cuz when I bought diodes that I figured out didn't work from help from this site. (wouldn't burn stuff) and he didn't know that these diodes wouldn't burn sooo yeah. Thanks for all ur info

ok but still what's the cheapest module and driver available for a cheap budget? thanks for all the info guys really helpful

The cheapest module would probably be the one you bought. If you're still talking about building a burning laser, DTR has probably the cheapest. M140 Diodes.
Lasers are not cheap in general. If you want to take it up as a hobby you are going to need a budget over $100 dollars (for a burning laser anyway). I would
recommend getting a diode with a driver already attached so you don't have to risk killing the diode. Really though, you should probably build your first laser
with a low powered diode, such as the one you already have. Just to get a feel for the ropes.

EDIT: Also, DO. NOT. FORGET. SAFETY. GOGGLES. I can't stress this enough. Good safety goggles are going to set you back a few bucks, but you cant put a

Ok but a diode with a driver already attached? And I'm not looking for diodes I'll just take a DVD burner apart so getting a diode will be no prob. And are u sure my module would even be worth it for a DVD burner diode sense it's probably not the greatest? I'll look up some good drivers online and see which ones are good.
