I am interested in building a laser around a LOC diode
i want to use a flexdrive, but heres my dilemma
I want to power this at energies around 1 planck power

can the diode handle this?

i have no idea how mutch one plank power is and the wikipedia article also did not clear this up for me.
But expect around 250 mw cw with a decent lifetime and 350 mw cw with reduced lifetime from a loc diode
there rated for 400 mw pulsed and ive seen them run on 400 mw cw but not for long

i highly doubt that you will be able to drive a laser diode with more than ten million times the energy of a gamma ray burst. we're talking about epic, theoretical levels of power here, get your units sorted.

from wikipedia:

"...equal to about 3.62831 × 10[sup]52[/sup] W."

or about 36,283,100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 W.
you are looking at a MAXIMUM of 0.4 W output, which makes it maybe ~1.5 W of input.
oh and not only the diode will die way before your planck, the flexdrive won't make this either.

lol.
i don't know man.........i think hes onto something here....i knew these little LOC diodes had potential!

Just to include another quote from wiki:
and indeed, exceeding 1/4 of the Planck power will produce an event horizon under general relativity

But I'm really not sure if the laser diode could survive that, since the amount of time is on the order of 10[sup]-44[/sup]. It's really short! It may survive! (think about the duty cycles!)

Of course, although it may be possible that the diode survives it, it is impossible to build something to make it out put that amount of energy in that period of time, since some time will be taken to ramp up the energy to such a threshold which will fry any components involved before the target energy level is reached.

hm, i can get up to 3,5kw from the mains here. so all i need is 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 mains sockets... not too much, i'm gonna buy some extension cords and start bugging the neighbours as soon as i am out of work ::)

smileys help other people recognizing jokes, when they are not able to get your mimics and cadence.

actually would be best if jokes were funny...

As the whole diode and can vaporized, the EMP from that much power would stand an elephant on his ear :D
