I am obviously turning into a laser god.
Bought an LPC 836 off some Chinese bloke meant to be a mits.
any way I learned another lesson in caution I had it wired directly to my power supply .. all was well creeping up the current . got to 500 and it was still only making about 270mw even in a real lumpy heatsink .
The valuable lesson I learned (even though ive read it here a million times ).
is don't turn the powerpack off and on again :tsk:
I am now the proud owner of 2mw LED praise be !!

:( Thanks for sharing and reminding everyone. I also blew a red by direct driving it. I was too eager.

Perhaps it's just the atheist in me..but, Laser God over a blown diode?
Maybe I'm just confused; in suffering from Brisket overdose.

If blowing diodes make us gods, than I am in the correct way to become one... I have already blown 4.... HAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh, my are you guys missing a good time in NYC..the Dover sole, the mussels...oh, we do not get seafood on the prairie like this!
If only I l
Had La Spada Verdi to pick the entree I want!

There's something very wrong about being in NYC without my lasers..

Umm....maybe you shouldn't have been driving an LPC above 500mA trying to get more output. Once you are past the efficiency curve, very little gain is made for lots of added current.

Then I'd be in line for the purple laser god. I've spent more time looking at PHR LED's than actual lasers. Then when I'm feeling depressed I shove so much current into them that they die altogether, and then laugh maniacally as I observe the blown golden wire to the diode under a microscope...

Yeah I suppose but it was making less than I thought
was in a huge heat-sink and it was just starting to level out .Ive seen a lot of people here driving 826 at 500m/a and this was an 836.What popped it was the surge turning the pack back on.
I just consider it part of a learning curve ,part of the rich tapestry that is making lasers.
so I blame only my over exuberance. And my god like ability to ruin diodes:)
I certainly smited that one

Sometimes folks confuse their massive heatsinks w/ extended life on diodes. I know I did, once.

If you have an inefficient, damaged, or just improperly soldered diode, these things will simply give up the ghost.

Sorry about your diodes. Good luck on the next one.
