Just wondering what the polarity of Senkats diode are.  I could play around with it and find it eventually, but it would be easier if I already knew ;D

so, here is a cheap diagram of the pins.

Put the pins facing you - with the case grounded pin facing up, looking like this :

* <-----Negative, and grounded to the case

Positive------------> . . <-------Photo Diode connection (not used)

Look good ?

Re: Polarity of senkats diodes?

awesome! thanks.

hey, um, why is my thread higher then the others?

Its fine, just wondering under what conditions caused it.

but thanks! I'm glad you told me, I was playing around wth an IR diode in my aixiz housing and I couldn't get it to work. I ended up destroying it when I tried to remove it cause I thought it was bad (maybe it was but no difference now)

Your thread is higher than the rest, because I stickified it ! This question has been asked many times in numerous threads, but it is obviously difficult to find - so now it will be EASY to find !

Time for me to throw in a few cents!

Ummmm, that's the back of the diode itself. I would recommend not letting anything hit it. I advise everyone to add an extra pin to the pos/neg legs, usually the pins off of an LED work well. and use those to support the diode if it's going into a light. Got more questions, here!

Just wondering. Are you still going to do your own vid for this project? Thanks.

LDs i received already had nice long enough pins.

True, I believe Rhith was referring to or thinking of a diode harvested from a DVD burner.

That is indeed a diode harvested. But, I also have had one form the GB and it has the same polarity and for the applications I used I needed the longer legs so I soldered them onto the diode.

All - I saw a question asked about snapping a pin off the diode. I do not suggest a total removal of any pins - but sometimes, cutting the PD pin about halfway can help to keep you from getting confused on "Sleepless..OMG, I ALMOST have it done.." nights.....

Haha, true true. That's what I did to mine with SenKat's advice. Too bad someone killed it! :-/
