open can diode help

i just need to know wich 20x dvd burner i should get
i want one with great power [300mw] and that is esay to get the diode out and i am very experianced with lasers
i have been working with them for 2 years.
and my v meter broke so should i use a 2 ohm half a watt resistor to get 250mw with lm317
and if that is to much pleas tell me i want to make a driver that will let my diode live a long life.
also is 400-420ma the sweet spot for these long open can diodes.

Hi! Welcome to the forums.
I've heard that the Pioneer 115D series have Long Open Can diodes that are capable of over 300mW. Here is a link to a 116D which should be very similar and have the Long Open Can diode.
Or if you don't feel like risking the diode by extracting it, check out TheMonk's Long Open Can diode sale here.
To get 420 mA with the driver you would need a 3-Ohm resistor. These Long Open Can diodes are commonly pushed to 470mA (with sufficient heatsinking of course) but I would recommend you stay at 420 mA for the best life for your diode.

thanks i wasent real sure wich model i should get ;D

also i think i might bush it to 450ma becouse i have a nice body
that has a fan and a heatsink and the body isent all that big
but also i want it to last long so ya ill keep it down to 420ma-430ma
and i got a new voltmeter.

Oh and one more thing-
Don't forget to short the capacitor before you hook the diode to the driver ;)

thanks for the info.
and i already know all about the drivers it is just that my volt meter was down. ;D

Wicked Lasers has some cheap goggles for these ($40) but the shipping is $20, which "kills" the deal. I would recommend http://stonetek.org/shop/, but SenKat is not selling the red wicked goggles now either. My advice to you is to be patient and wait until a good deal pops up.

Edit:
If I remember correctly, Pseudonomen137 has some wicked goggles for $40 shipped.

Yep, just use a screwdriver or something to momentarily short the positive and negative
leads of the capacitor. That should discharge it completely. It doesn't hurt to double check
it with your DMM too though.
