O-Like Red/IR test results

I ordered a batch of O-Like Red/IR "New Style" lasers, and tested them on the LPM. All are slightly overspec - here are the test results:

980nm/150mW = 155mW
808nm/220mW = 230mW
780nm/120mW = 130mW
780nm/120mW = 125mW
660nm/200mW = 205mW

As for the recent discussion of "Old Style" vs "New Style", I've been told by Susie the innards are exactly the same - only the host changed.
 





what a good work O-like are doing !
overspec will be a surprise for customers, and of course will attracts more orders
 
To better demonstrate your data, maybe is better to post directly the pictures taken from LPM ;)
 
Pictures? Seriously? Would you like the picture of the initial peak, or after it's settled down? How would you trust that I posted the picture I said I did? Oh, then someone would want video. Then I'd be accused of taking the best one of a bunch of each. Then...

You see, what I've come to realize on this forum is some people will never be satisfied - there's always the next step. I test all my lasers, for my own personal knowledge, and thought I'd share that data here. If you guys didn't try to scare everyone away from contributing with the lynch-mob mentality, perhaps more people would. In that case, there would be multiple reports to back up that data - THAT's where the real proof is, not just one report.

I can think of too many ways I could fool the camera. Pictures are not proof - they just add to the illusion of proof. You would have to trust I was snapping the shot after the laser settled down, not of the peak, so why not trust the data as-is?

If you can offer a valid reason as to how or why pictures of some random laser pointed at an LPM would genuinely contribute to the data I posted, I'll reconsider taking some pictures and adding to the initial post.
 
I see both ya'll point here. JohnD was kind enough to post his findings on his new lasers....and Thanks for that....Its always good to have more info that less.
For the others defense....There have been, from what I can tell, ALOT of spammers and Companies trying to push their products by touting how great their products are through another forum name. I think people may just need a little more reassurance(pics) that what is said is true.
Of course as JohnD said...we dont know when the pic was taken or any real information and must take it at face value....but it does show to the reader that extra time in to share and didn't just post to boost sales(I DONT BELIEVE THIS TO BE TRUE JohnD!)

The figures should not be taken as "incontestable proofs", but only one way to avoid spammers and that an enthusiast produces without any problems, but are difficult to obtain by others.
With my post did not mean to offend anyone and I apologize if it happened :)
 
I'm not a spammer (thanks for the vote of confidence), and have nothing to gain from sharing information here. Rest assured however, if I were selling one of these lasers, I'd post pictures (and/or crappy video) to backup my claims in order to help the sale. For now though, I'm keeping them all (except the duplicate 780nm, which is for a friend and is no longer in my possession).

I'm not offended, just a little defensive on this forum in particular... Something all non-vets are unfortunately trained to be when joining/participating here. ;)

the spammers are only one of the reasons, when it's possible I always suggest to insert pictures, furthermore also in scientific articles in international journals, the direct data is always preferible in respect to the simple description in the text.

These are the reasons of my post and I never thought that you are a spammer ;)
 
Overspec means nothing, while its nice the specs are true any laser company can just subtract a few milliWatts from their actual output and post it; There is nothing to it.

I don't know anything about the driver or diode they use, but given the heat sink isn't anywhere near what a DIY would have, I wouldn't even attempt it. Even with a nice heat sink, I killed a 300mW red in less than a minute.

Overspec is just a marketing procedure due to human psychology. Sell a 200mW laser that tests 205mW, and a 210mW laser that tests 205, at the same price, and people will feel satisfied with the 200 but cheated with the 210. It's all about feeling like you got what you paid for...
 
JohnD has posted data using his meters which are wrong !!!
Consider this -- ALL our meters are wrong, yes, even mine. This is a hobby and our meters are not correlated.
I try to use the callibration procedures for my Scientech meters occasionally but the electronics can drift.
I say we wait until someone confirms or negates JohnD's readings --

TBH, this is from a debating stand point, and not a technological stand point on the current subject *sorry for getting off topic, but its related.*

providing pictures is providing pictures, taking the picture at the peak or after it settled doesn't matter, it PROVES that you actually did the test, thats +1 kudos for doing something instead of making things up.

Your results never fully stated *at peak *after settled etc etc. however, its just information you willingly provided.

your boosting a company your happy and satisfied, and your willing to share that with others to help them have a better experience with a purchase, again +1 kudos JohnD.

however, real life has too many variables, as everything inside real life. no 2 meters are the same, if you take it into literal account. i'm talking about atom to atom type of tech stand point. but is that really relevant in life? other thoughts, how long has the meter/measurer been used for - parts being damaged/wearing away due to usage (it happens with everything, this is the circle of life, why do you think everything dies?) you can't account for all these little knick-nacks that appear in front of you.

eliminate rhetorical stuff and trust your gut.

anyway, back to the topic. i ordered an o-like old-style red 200mw. after i just read on another post that the beam isnt quite visible, im somewhat upset, but hopefully i can pop balloons and cut/burn paper/electrical tape. i get what i paid for, hopefully, like JohnD posted, its over spec and its more than what i paid for. kudos kudos kudos. i like chocolate kudo bars, MMMMM...
