Red lasers won't burn your skin if you point it at your skin. Most organic materials scatter and transmit red light.

Daylight will make any red laser dot appear dim. Red does not appear very bright since it's towards the lower edge of the wavelengths the human eye can perceive. And forget about a visible beam in daylight.

As for the matches and balloons, there are several factors like how small the dot is focused to and the color of the balloon or match head. Naturally, red lasers aren't as effective at scorching red-colored objects.

I have the same laser pointer. (I just got it today) But the laser has to be an inch away from my wall to be the normal sized dot (the really small one) and I am at the focus setting where the dot is the smallest.
