Hi all I'm new. I recently became interested in the science of light and all that stuff so I looked into lasers and found this site. I'm looking to build my first laser and I've searched around these posts and still don't really understand it. I want to buy all the supplies from stone tek to save on the shipping. I know I need a diode, a driver, a host (maglite), and a module. Is there anything else I need? Also is the Aixiz module on stone tek the same as the one on mfgcn.com?

Thanks

you can buy everything you need from stonetek, including a more sensible host than a maglite;)...
So order:-
RED LD
Aixiz module
LM317 kit
Host torch

With a bit of reading, a bit of care with the building and a pair of RCR321 batteries, (these or similar).....

To be up and running with a red burner....

[edit]Having just been to SenKats site I see he no longer seems to offer the LM317 kit, go for a Rkcstr hi output adjustable drive instead. SenKat will no doubt advise you to get that direct from Rkcstr as his prices are better[/edit]

Ok well The host on stone tek is really expensive so I was wondering if I could get all my parts from dealextreme?

Thanks

LOL..... yes it would be cheaper and easier but the warm glow of satisfaction when your first home built laser floods the room with red light is an experience I will never forget, I have since built around 15 different colour/[powered lasers and I have a list as long as my arm of other experiments still to do....
Go on, build one...you know you want to...... ;)

Your DX order looks just right, once you have paid you are looking at around 2 weeks delivery, there are plenty of "how to" threads on that host, use the time to get clear in your head what you need to do....

I have just remembered something else you need..... ::)
A jayrob heatsink......http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1202452073

As I make my own heatsinks it didn't come to mind when doing my list ;)
