I'd rather purchase one of these than build an open canned. I killed 2 open canned diodes today and 4 in the last week. I'm tired of building red lasers. I like it better when someone else does the building. Especially when it works out to be cheaper (taking into account all costs) I decided to pick up another 2 of these. I will have 3 coming to me soon I hope. I will measure the output of all of them.

Even if the Dx 200mw red sucks, the diode and/or driver could be replaced with a better one...

This is really good, after spending $80 dollors on diodes just to have them all die finaly i can get something that even has a one month warrenty and is pre made and focusable... im probably going to wait until there are some reviews tho, but i hope they dont run out and permenantly stay that way, kinda like the ultrafire 90mw green one.

I know, its kinda like transforming $80 into 4 leds :(.....

Now back to the laser on hand.. i found something odd, on the label it says wavelength is either 532nm...630nm...760nm.....or 808nm

So im guessing that they manufacturer those three wavelengths and seeing as 630nm is the only red one maybe thats what this is... that would be amazing, especially at the price.

Plenty of people here with one on the way i see.. guess i'll await some results before ordering this laser, though it looks like a good deal.

I would be interesting to see if the diode is a 'normal' 5.6mm type too, and if it would be user replaceable by a more powerful one, provided the driver can be altered accordingly. Perhaps we should urge DX to sell the bare diodes that go into these too, they should be able to get their hands on them from the laser pointer supplier...

I so want to get this but i dont know, i could go ahead and get it now but find out that there as some serious problem with it that i would of found out due to the reviews.

Or i could wait until there are reviews but then it could possibly go on backorder for many months.

I dont know what to do lol :-/

I wander how good they are. Last time I had 200mW were two from spymodex, very nice units with good heat sink, but too much current so both of them died within 5-6 weeks.
I don't see sufficient heat sink size built into this model (not even close), so guys (whoever ordered this unit)be careful how long you keep it on. Watch for heat and avoid it.

Some of that probably had to do because how horrible spymodex's are, they are like the king of horrible lasers, they don't even know anything about them... they claim there red lasers have a pump diode and state of the art heats inking... um a single red diode and for heat sinking just a big piece of metal.. lol.
