Hey All,

So As i Normal do, always looking for New stuff to find. This is Part of the fun i have in this Hobby.

Anyway, I talked with a supplier that mentioned they have a small sample amount of some New Red diodes in 3.8mm size. The first thing that came to my mind was these got to be the Smoc Dual WL diodes that we find in the more Expensive BDR-205/203 12x/8x burner's. However the supplier had no info on them yet SO it was just my best guess since it was the same package. They also mentioned that they are BRAND NEW not sled pulls.:D I got even more excited.

So I picked up 5 out of the samples they had as they where Kinda of Expensive for Reds but conceder it sample it was a fair price. ~30$ each.

Well I got them in last night and started doing some simple testing.

First thing i wanted to see is if it was the Dual Wavelength Smoc's that we know of already. Come to find out they weren't.

Then only thing i could think of is these are New Diodes and when they said New diodes to me i misunderstood them and thought they just meant New as in not sled pulls. Well its both. They are Not sled pulls and have no solder mask on the pins and they are New Diode on the Market Possible. As far as i know i dont know of any other Red that can do what your about to see bellow.:eg:

Here are Some Picutres.....

LPM Video:

Driver was set to 760mA

Lens is a Jayrob 650-G-1 lens

LPM Test:

So Far i tested these to ~800mA.:eg: and they still dont dim out and power still increases. It seems like the increasing in power is slowing down so i kicked it back down a little to put it in a handheld really quick.

Iam send 2 diodes over to rhd to play with and see what he thinks.

Ill end up testing the other 2 of mine as well to see where these LED.

Thats what i got so far. These Look Promising.:D

If theses turn out to be good. I can get them in a Price Range as what you guys get LPC-826's for.

Red's are still my favorite.:p

:thanks: For Looking.!!!

Awesome :eg:

Saw your current activity "Creating thread in the Red Section" a few hours ago :D

Wow, smaller package and still more power than before. These are good finds !
I need more 3.8 modules. :D

Definitely you are the RED-KING hahaha :eg:

Excellent performance for a diode so small.

You know their wavelength?

Thank you for sharing Angelos

Those things have a lot of punch for such a small package!
Thanks for the testing and sharing. What are the beam specs like? Were you able to tame it down?

THats exactly what i said. They pack a punch.:gun:

LOL. I love my RED.:)

I do Not. I can try to figure it out. But its probably 650nm-660nm.

Beam specs are Exactly like the Red we Have now. They still have the wings :( but i guess we will never see a red without them.

I have to look again but i think the Die is larger on these 3.8mm diodes then LPC-826,815 etc....

Wow! half watt 660
Great work!

how are the beam specs?

Very nice. Good to see people willing to take the plunge for the benefit of the hobby.;)

Very nice diodes man !
What about beam specs ?

Jim

Awesome find! I hope the that the class IV results weren't the results of them being over driven, that would be a horrible ending to this. Keep up posted mate!

I have not Measured them Exactly. But to my Eye's its Identical to any other LPC-815,826,836 etc...

It also Has the Wings.

I think we will never get away from those with single mode reds.

:)

Lets hope those new 3.8mm 405nm diodes i have on the way are good too.;)

IF you have not notice we all Over drive our diodes.;) The point of testing them is to find that sweet spot. I dont think this is Above the sweet spot. It might be the sweet spot but i need to test them more.

All Reds up to this Point that where in 5.6mm or even the 3.8mm dual WL ones out of the 12x and 8x sled wold LED ~550mA.

This diode has not yet LED or showed a Sign of Making Out at 800mA.

We do over drive, I was just hoping that 700-800mA isn't over driving to the equivalent of say 600mA for an 815, ya know? If 800mA is still a safe current is it's well above class IV range, then a dangerous overdrive could yield 600-700, and that would be awesome. A PBS build with these could yield in the 1W+ range and that's exactly what I'm looking for.

Awesome! I think these look pretty promising! So does the 3.8mm package mean these can be referred to as SLOCs? Small Long Open Cans?

Damn Lazeerer You are on red hot on fire with these finds!

These look like they have great potential. Looks like I might need some 3.8mm modules after all :D
