New 1.2w 638 diode CHECk IT OUT!

The price isn't that bad, should be ok to do 2w it's a 9mm can!
Not sure what the max current is though so I can get a driver soughted out!

Good eyes bob! The thread said 1.2w
You don't need to double post too mate!
U differently interested hey!

Yes found a different listing it said 1500ma current

Oooops, it listed as 1.2 watts not 1.5 unless I'm missing something? But yes, this is worth paying attention to! Been looking for a more powerful red diode. Wonder what it can be pushed to? Maybe DTR will check them out? I hope so! I'm differently intetested !

Badboybilly, you think this can be pushed to two watts? That would be awesome. I'd have to buy one! Coolness!!

Interesting find bbb, I wonder what the "under development" on the spec sheets really means?
If it is as advertised, this will be a great alternative to the mits. diodes, especially if it has better divergance!

Definatly bro!

Bob this is not the one Rick tested this is a single beam multi mode ,not the 2.5w G8!

I double checked with him and he's saying he's not positive, so I think it's looks promising .

If we can get some testing in this one I'll definitely be buying one for a future build:D

I tested it eariler and the result was probably not as impressed as the "1.2W" output rating sounds.

The 1.2W 638nm diode:

Five meters away with G7 or 3-element lens (1W@1.5A with G7):

When the diode driven to 1.5A, the output is around 1.3W(with G7~=1W) and 2A is about 1.6W.

With a bad divergence like this you will get ton of loss on the output if you decide to make a handheld unit with this diode, just like the tri-beam G84 2W 638nm diode.

The beam is widely spreaded and the focus lens cannot collect all the light from the diode, making it worse than what we have now, Oclaro 700mW/ Mitsu 500mw etc.

Oh wow was about to throw away money, I have a Mitts doing 1.3w at 1.4a so pretty much the same thing with a wider beam, dam how about 4x cylinder correction It could be nice no!

Yep, I've got the same thing, I think I'll just keep the Mits. for now; it's just as nice, and a lot cheaper!

Well I got all excited for a quick moment:(
Guess I'll just have to stick with the Mits500

That's an impressively ugly beam! Might be OKish with some correction, but still not great. I'd stick with something else personally ...
