Go to odicforce, and they have a TTL driver for red (AFAIK), and also grab a LPC diode from there. It will have to be DIY, or you could ask someone here to build it for you.

Will this be a drop-in replacement for one already in service? If so, I suspect the TTL driver is already in the projector, and all you need is labby to replace it. If you drop one in that is stronger than the one already in service, your colors may not be balanced.

Do you know WHICH color red you want to replace? 650nm is pretty common, but so are 632nm. 200mW of 632nm will look brighter than 200mW of 650nm, so it may be best to seek the same color.

Post some pics, if you can, of the labby. It may answer some questions.

Go to AixiZ.com and check out their new 12vdc mini labs ttl in 638nm!!! cheap-
way over spec

and that color of red it one of the best- much brighter than 650 ot 660-- ships from Houston Tx-- be sure to tell AixiZ that hak sent you.. great service after the sales too. do not buy from Ebay( even the AixiZ-Lasers at ebay) or AixiZ amazon- just go with the store and you will not regret- you can place yr order with a credit card and do this via the 800 # at the site. very fast shipper and you will get great service...

hak

************ update w/ more info and links-

ttl modules offered by AixiZ_laser

to see them use these links... but to buy them call AixiZat their 800 toll free number( 888-424-9491) and you can charge them and get very quick delivery form Houston Tx- ask for a shipping break for combining and also for any discount they can offer for a forum member and friend of Hak's(Len)

AixiZ perfers buyers calling instead of ordering from AixiZ feebay or amazon. If a guy answers it will be Dr Chuck or the lady of the house Xia (pronounced like sigh but with a Z )
I would choose these for a easy DIY projector- or to upgrade or replace any modules--should be a close to white laser when combined( but if you use both the 445 and the 405 it will be a bluish white) The green module below is way overspec-

my 150 12v 405 makes 230mW & the 445 is overspec too.
I DO like techood and they send good items to me- but the wait is longer so its a tradeoff-
I like to buy USA when I can --even if I must pay a little more...

if you have tech questions for AixiZ send them to me- as if you ask for help from Chuck you would very likely be sent to me anyway. I do this free to help the forum, AixiZ and myself.
AixiZ is a big sponsor of ILDA- SELEM and TEXLEM and even my BBQ cook-off team.

AND just where wold we be without our beloved AixiZ blank modules??
AixiZ ships world wide as many as 2000 per month- and has been doing this for a VERY LONG time.

The red being 638nm is far brighter than a 200 650nm-- and all four are 12vdc- where needed they have TEC cooling and all are ttl..

any issues are handled quickly and to your satisfaction.

I would like to see somebody cube two of these together. That should make plenty Red to balance out the G,BR & B. for a nice white.

No need to make a new post mate, you already have this thread here.

500mW of red wont come cheap. You're looking at 250-800$ for a new one.

This one is 270$
meierlight

Edit: What was wrong with the original? If you're interested I'll buy the carcass off of you, the optics inside of it are still worth something.

Doh, you beat me to it. Aaargh. ;)

Edit: maybe it's NOT a 500mW. Sometimes the labeling on (made in china) lasers can be misleading. it may say <500mW or not exceeding 500mW, but that doesn't mean it IS a 500mW.

What brand and model projector did it come out of? Maybe the advertised specs will tell you what it's (claimed to be) at.

the original is not as bright as it used to be(im saying that but i never saw it originaly,im just assuming because of the age), it still works though, im pretty sure its not a chineese crap, this laser projector was bought in 2005 by a company that specialises in custom ilda laser projectors, the whole unit was paid 25k$(canadian curency) it was lost in a repair shop for 2 years(wich turned out to be the shop who built the laser) i now just got it again, the blue laser did not work(dpss laser, 473nm i believe to be 30 watts, wich does not emit light but the driver still turns on, pretty sure that laser cost 2000$ by itself originaly) and the green and red are weak, so im fixing it up, its worth fixing because it has 30kbps galvos

wow. this sounds like a nice system. and what fun it must be fixing it up. at least, I enjoy that sort of thing. taking something and making it work... or work better. I find these kinds of projects very rewarding.

If the labeling says (the red) is a 500mW, then go with that. Keep us posted on your progress. There are several projector lovers, here.

it was a nice system, im trying to make it nice again :), im a lighting technician who like fixing lighting stuff, lasers is just a new door im entering, now im wondering it that blue dpss laser is repairable

Wow! I can tell you right now that your 473nm isn't 30 watts, probably more around 500mW . 2000$ for a low power 473nm module was not uncommon before the summer of 445nm.
If it was 30 watts it would be worth well over 25k by itself.

I'll definitely buy the old red module off of you if you're interested in selling. If it's got standard LOC diodes in it I may even be able to fix it up for you.
I'll also buy the 473nm if you've still got it. If it's repairable I can fix it up for you if you would like, though DPSS is hard to repair.

Got any pictures of them?

Where in Canada (I assume) are you located?

I've never heard of a 473nm THAT big. Did I read 30W right?
DPSS implies crystals that can get out of alignment. It can be realigned, but it's a delicate process of trial and error.

I'd replace it with a 445nm labby. Your system was built before the 445 diode was so commonplace, like it is, today. Also, the 445s not being DPSS suggest they will run cooler than the 473 and less delicate.

i think 30mw, my mistake, the model number written on the dpss laser is:
bl473t-030
bl(blue) 473(473nm)-030 (30mw)
im not sure though, thats just based on a google search that gave nothing but a 150mw version(bl473t-150)

Probably 300mW then? 2K is around the price for a high end 300mW 473nm, 30mW would only be a few hundred for a high end 473nm.
