My take on a quad red

i like to be different in life ;)

heres my take on a slightly different quad red setup.

once complete i hope to get 1watt from it of 660nm.

got a very nice beam as you can see from the below 3mm high by 1mm wide.
so once the other two beams are in the final beam will be 3mm high by 2mm wide @ 1mR

the beams are polarized in one direction so i could add another using a cube for 2watts of 660 with a beam of 3mm by 3mm

So, double knifeedge(vertical and horizontal) with optics to blur the seperations a bit?

What diodes are you using?
 
yes but you dont blur the seperation. you using the lens to combine beams and overlap at distance so they make a single beam.

open can diodes (815)
 
Maybe blur was the wrong word to use, but I assume without some optics you would see the beams form a pattern like TEM11
 
with each lens giving a beam size of 5mm by 3mm you would also get a very big beam.
ive got 4 diodes so final beam at apeture would be 6mm by 10mm

the optics help shrink the beam
 
That looks pretty cool - good result so far!

I guess its going to be one of those epic sized red lasers when you decide to combine another 4 diodes with a cube and use the beam contractor after that.

Its a lot of work, building and aligning all of that that, but it would be truly awesome laser when completed, a red to match a 445 and 532 for a very decent amount of white :)
 
its only 4 or 8 beams it only takes 2mins to align.

will post some more pics when its complete
 
You must be good at aligning things :)

If you get 4 running it'll be pretty powerful, i suppose you could make some nice burning shots for multimedia (light cigarettes and such).
 
That is some serious aluminium heatsinking! Very very nice construction although a bit big to put in an enclosure. I'd love to know your technique/procedure to align this setup.

well if build well then its only takes seconds.

its only aligning 4 beams which are already facing in the same direction.

well when i get all 4 running it will be 1watt

big! that setup will sit on your hand very easily. the alum block with the 4 diodes in measures 70mm long

technique? its just a case of adjusting the adjustable mirror mounts.
 
Do you mean those output optics are a beam expander?
or do you converge them all to a point and use another lens
to make them parallel. (I don't think that's possible, so I probably don't understand.) A diagram may explain better.

yes you get the beams parallel to each other then at distance align each beam on top of each other
 
well its finished, just a shame i had to build it from scrap metal.

the beam at apeture is 2mm wide by 3mm high

the final beam is a bit shitty as the mirror are full of finger prints, but as you can see the dot if about 1.5cm high @ 16-18 metres

Nice setup! Nothing wrong with scrap metal, it looks good.
Are you going to post some burning?
 
Very nice setup! It's funny that red is now the limiting color in hobby RGB laser systems, but it looks like you will have this covered. I don't know if I missed it, but what current are you feeding those laser diodes?
