Hey guys i have an on going project building 22x LOC from LG 22x DVD burner, im still waiting for  DVD burner from my cousin. Any way i have the set up here for my project plan about this 22x LOC, im using DDL driver as usual same as my other previous project ive done, Chido and Gazoo already helped me about this so im not new on what im trying to build. already got great info here on what i need to make this good. This project still in progress and planning to add another layer of aluminum for the heatsink on the host so i can make the LD last. im Thanking those guys who help me on my previous Laser project. If you have any suggestions or comments its fine so i can make my project better. ;) :)

Heat sink is good, but you must make sure you have the best possible contact between the laser can and the surrounding metal. I have a 16xDVD burner diode which I soldered the LD heatsink directly to the surrounding brass housing i got from an excess laser pointer - in other words: There is no better way of leading the heat away than this. I run that laser at almost 750 - 800mA without more heatsink than this brass housing, and that laser even burn hole through transparent plastic... I have had it for a quite long time now and it is still going strong.
The diode is shown below still connected to the DVD-drive.

great ,so it means my heatsink was enough, and the thing i need to worry is the contact between LD and the actual heatsink including the metal surrounds and the body, right? so the heatsink must be tight enough with the LD so it will last. please check my host if i need to add another aluminum heatsink outside or its ok, thanks man.

Looks good!

Do you have a custom PCB done for the DDL driver?
How much current you set it for?
I think for DDL, the voltage drop is quite a bit so you might need 4.5 Volts.

Thanks man, :)
the DDL driver its already in the image post here, actually i use the cheap laser pcb and button the rest of the parts was soldered directly into their particular connection. the current was fixed there i used 3ohm 1watt resistor instead of trimpot as Jayrob said to set it to 420ma enough to run 22x LOC from DVD burner. Anyway my source of input power was 2pcs. of AAA size 3.6volts li-ion rechargeable battery(protected).

here is my host almost done added another aluminum scrap tightly fit for the heatsink. ;) :)

cheers, :)

to adgmeijin:sry for OT

to Low-Q: how long can I expect to my LD (16x) lives if it has a good heatsink and fan if i put it on 750-800mA
