After receiving my DX 70mw Red Laser Module in the mail and getting it running (Finally), I put it in a metal housing, and it is now a sort of portable labby laser...

(Sorry for the bad quality, i don't have my digital camera with me and all I had was my webcam...)

Its a pretty nice laser, but doesn't focus to a tight beam very well. Pops balloons instantly, and lights matches aided with a magnifying glass. Beam is slightly visible in the air. It seems to have a pretty low divergence.

Overall, I would give this module...

SpyR --

Looks good to me and thanks for the proper sized pictures.
My DX70 ran at 100 mW for 3 hours no problem -- Little heat.

Thanks :)

Will most DX 70mw modules pump out around 100mw when the pot is maxed out?

You can power this thing with a 9v battery if you want to, or even some button cells (Untested). 2 cr123s might be a little expensive to power it with, and since AAs are common and cheap, I would just use them.

ill be getting one of these. Do you think its possible to mount a lens on the front of the unit from a aixiz module?

Also anyone who has bought these, is there any point of buying the 100mw version for ~30 when the 70mw can hit 100mw and cost around half the price?

Hi SargeMX5

It's possible that you could extract the entire diode and place it in an Aixis module. However, the optics on this diode are already fairly decent and it comes with a screw focus on the front for easy adjustment.

What benefit are you expecting from the Aixis?

People have been saying that its too hard to focus the beam into a very small point. ive used the aixiz before and i was able to focus the beam into a very small point. I didnt actualyl want to change the whole compartment, just attach the lens of the aixiz laser on the module from dx.

Is the 100mw version better?

I've had no real trouble in being able to focus the beam over a wide range of lengths.

I've been able to burn bags between 8" and 15' (feet). I have found it difficult to collimate after I initially set it to burn stuff, but I figure that's just because it's unwieldy to move it around and test at various distances at the moment since I haven't boxed it up yet.

The only problem I find is being able to get a screwdriver wide enough to turn the end part - if you use too small a screwdriver you risk scratching the objective lens. A plastic spatula-type screw-driver would be the best option for long-term use.

I can't comment on the 100mW version, since I was too cheap to spring for it, and got two 70mW ones instead.

I have no problem adjusting the focal length. You can always take an old slot driver and grind the center out of it to protect the lens.

I came across a problem with the DX70 that I bought, it caused my very first red LD death :(. I had measured the output to the LD it came with, it was within the usable range of SenKats red so I connected one up. It lit up fine but when I put a screwdriver to the pot to turn it up I went into LED mode. On investigation I discovered that any pressure to the top of the pot caused it to go open circuit, applying 5v to the LD.
It may be worth checking the pots on the boards you have.

On the up side the green output works well with the DX green modules....

I got one of these units. Its great. I want to know if anyone here has measured the output voltage and the current of the circuit when the pot is at its highest. If so then do you think it will be possible to attach a more powerful laser to the circuit? Also seeing as it has a green output, what would happen if one was to connect another red?
