yep, that's why the output is off. you don't need to drill it. just melt the solder on the contact (spring) board and pry it off of the pill. on the other side of the board is a driver for the emitter. remove all the components from the pcb and yer good to go. the emitter is just that - only. sorry for not letting you know.

Just bought a PS for the HeNe in my avatar, so pretty soon I will be able to post pics of it lasing!!!

I think the output rating is somewhere around 1-2mW. That is just a guess though based on the small size of the tube. Current input will be about 3.5mA.

UPDATE on 638nm build! Just fixed the issue with the driver driving my driver (whoa wut! Driverception!) and I am letting my one 18650 battery charge up. I metered it before the charge and I only got 415mW, so I am thinking I have a battery issue....I got the battery with my Crelant Flashlight like a few months ago and this is the first time I am charging it. So yeah....I am super anxious for it to be charged so I can see what the true output of my laser is....I hate not having more 18650's...

Ask your friends and family for their broken laptops and salvage the batteries. They're chock full of cheapish 18650s. I use them for my low-current builds and keep my bad boys for the big guns.

I am about to buy 4 Panasonic NCR18650B batteries. I will keep them in a bandolier across my chest like Chewbacca preparing to take on the Empire with Han.....or something....well I will have them, and that is the biggest thing.

That's some serious ammo, son...hope you find the game to use it on! A herd of 9mm's would be ideal of course, but maybe you could use it on a pair of M140's....just gotta find two standing close and pull that trigga tigga!

I keep visiting this thread and keep admiring the wavelength, I'm highly considering building/buying a 638nm laser now, I love them :D

I am glad my photos/videos are enjoyable to you. Always I am trying to make my multimedia better and better so that people appreciate my lasers as much as I do.
