I FINALLY built my red burning one.  It is insane, I popped a balloon from 28ft.  I am at work now and I was melting the plastic/rubber on the back of a tape measure.  It was smoking and smelled bad, basically I engraved it with my design.  I bought the box and button at radio shack.  I also bought a 3 AAA battery holder that is in there.  It is a custom driver that I bought with the slide GLASS optics.  It is a Pioneer 115d diode and I think it is set 200-250mW (since I don't have a meter I have no idea how much power is loss due to heat).  I also put a 1000uf cap w/ a 10M ohm resistor on it after the power button to stabilize the AAA's but I think I should rewire it to before the laser (I also have a 10uf Tantalum Cap on the LD).

In comparison to my DX200 532nm with the exposure set as long as I could on my N95 (extra 2ms?)

I don't know what you are using for a driver, but you can take out the 1000uf cap and the resistor. They are not doing any harm, but they are not doing anything to help either. Congratulations on your first DIY laser.. ;)

I took the cap out for now, seems to burn fine. I had it there because I thought the AAA's might not keep as stable as AA's since AAA's are like 900mA and AA's are 2500mA (at least the rechargeables are rated like that). The driver is one that kinda looks like a DX round one but isn't. When I open my laser to change the batteries I'll snap a photo of it.

Could you please tell us, where you got the driver, so we can check out how it works?
Is it a buck or boost LED driver? Does it have a coil on it? Or is it an AMC? Looks like it's supposed to be put in a flashlight, since it's round...

A close up pics of both sides of the board and a link wouldn't hurt.

Also, what kind of a laser module is that? The long brass tube i mean.. How do you focus the beam? Or did you make that yourself?

I got the lens and driver from pyrotronic on ebay but he is also on the forums here.
Ebay Item number: 320215646746

The laser module is a open can 115d. You focus the beam by pulling the inner slide tube out, I'll take more pics of it. It is WAY WAY BETTER THAN AIXIZ for burning, but not as much for pointing because if you point it up or down it might move and unfocus but for burning to focus is sooo fast and accurate of turning the aixiz.
