So, i have seen before that by cooling red lasers with liquid nitrogen, you can achieve much shorter wavelengths (down to the 605-610nm region) however you need very, very low temps (like -200C) but what type of results could we get with one of the low power, 635nm single mode diodes (like the HL63603TG) and cooled it with a 4-stage peltier cooler? i think it could get down to -70C if were lucky. what type of wavelength are we looking at for a temp like that?

The general thinking is 1 nm per 10 degrees C below zero, so with a perfect combination of a low bin and perfect temps, about 625nm or so would be the best you could hope for. Keep in mind that red led traffic lights are 625nm.

So it wouldn't quite be worth it. And thats probably if your lucky, I'm assuming. Although, there is a very noticeable difference between 635-38nm vs 650-60nm, so the extra few nanometres would probably be even orange-er (but not by much I'm guessing).

I'd wager that if it were right next to a 635, you could tell a bit of a difference. But if it were by itself, it would probably just look red. :/
