Ok first off a module probably won't get caught at customs and depending on your housing that probably will not either.
Ordered plenty not an issue only things I've had confiscated were complete builds.
You will also need a driver, else your diode will blow up in an unspectacular way.
What diode did you get?

i'm extracting a laser diode from a dvd burner. i also need help in a driver since i just started trying to make a laser. how do i make one and does it matter how the driver is, for example, i bought a driver that is connected to a 1mW laser and i want to put the dvd laser diode in, does it matter?
btw, i'm mentioning again that i live in australia and the customs are very strict on lasers. do you live in aus and have been able to get them through?

If you use a 1mw laser driver you won't get much power from your laser. You can build your own driver, they're cheap and kinda fun to make, see this website for info on making one.
Also, you need to know what kinda diode you are extracting, so you can know what current to run the diode at. Once you know what model it is you could look on this chart to see it's operating current: Here
I don't see why customs would stop an aixiz module from shipping in to australia, the module is just a little metal tube with a lens, customs probably wouldn't even know what it is if they were to see it.

Well, may I suggest that you check out rog8811's site and learn how to build a DDL driver? It is very easy to do and it's a great beginner driver. Plus, it can be made for like $5 in parts!
