Hi everyone,

Here is a build of a Laser 66 Gold Pen these are cool can't resist these hosts.
900mA is a conservative setting the 1.2A setting is just little to much and it begins to roll back. This will last a while longer considering the module is the only heat sink. Hope you enjoy the pics :) sorry for the blurred beam shots i was holding the build with one hand.

In it is;
1- Gold laser 66 pen
X Drive set to 900mA
G2 Lens
700 mW+

You are definately good at building these pens. Did you use thermal proxy or any glue?
It looks like you didn't connect the positive wire to anything. I think i understand how it's done.

Thanks for the thread.

Hi,
i epoxy the PCB to the driver just a little bit to hold both together i'll ad a pic soon with that connection it's easy.

@FU,
Thank you much for checking it out.

Rich:)

@ Jersa,

Here;s a rough pic of the final connection ,epoxy the two ends of the PCB and driver together first to make it one piece. then solder your pos+ wires to the connections. As for grounding the module to the host, strip a piece of wire . When your ready to complete the build snug the wire between the module and the host and push it in slow till flush then cut the remainder wire off, this will make the ground to the host snug inside the host. solder blob in the tailcap for good grounding. This will give you an idea..

@ FU,

1W / 520 is a 9mm diode to short a cycle and to hot to fast for this host theres no adequate heat sinking for it. Diode to much$$ to burn up. Go with a lower Wattage diode PLP520B1 is perfect for it. Run it to DTR max mA data..

Rich:)

Thanks, The idea of epoxying the switch and driver together makes me think of the x-switch driver, which is like the same thing, but a x-drive with a switch end.

How did you do the solder blob? Did you use any flux or take the copper/ brass-ish piece out?

Bright diodes, but that spot/splash is massive.
Cool hot looking build. :)

Hi Red,
yes thats true it has a G2 lens in it, with the 3 element it isn't bad at all. I didn't try any of my S1,G9 orG7 lenses yet, didn't have the time . Thank you for the reply Pal..

rich:)

Very nice Lifetime, did this complete your James Bond rainbow!:)

Hi G,
I have other pens in red,blue and green, but not all laser 66 pens. The first PLTB450B pen i made , i pulled the diode it was putting out over 2W's + very hot to fast so i didn't want to loose the diode due to inadequate heat sinking. i have a PL520/120W diode i'll put in one and i'll get another low power Blue for another. Folks get carried away with these pens with high power diodes the casualty rate will be high if the duty cycles aren't observed.I have a chromed 66 pen on the bench now for the 520nm build nice WL low power output ..
Thanks buddy for checking it out, always nice to hear the replies..

Rich:)

I plan on using this diode or the oclaro with a cylindrical lens for my future PJ build. The divergance is terrible... mine as well be a collimated LED hehe.
Great build. I have yet to do a pen build. I take it laser 66 is all about pens? I guess I will have to look them up

Supposingly Their the main source for our origional "G2" lens.

24K gold pen host? thats pretty badass. I have been reading about this company and have not really looked into them!
I need more money! Anyone wanna donate to the me fund? hehe jk
