Does anyone sell those S1 lenses mounted in a holder?

We did a couple years ago or so, but the Techood single element lenses were also in that GB initially.

I think the acrylic lenses work fine for lower power builds, seem to shape the beam ok. If I plan to use a build for burning, I use a better lens and more powerfull diode

I guess, but you give up 73% of your power when you do. I have a slew of three element lenses I don't use because they are 30% less power. Why would anyone give up 73% power just to put a lens that most of us would normally throw away?

I can't speak for anyone else,
But I wouldn't use a $15 lens on a 200-300mw $6 diode

Edit:
Does anyone actually throw these lenses away?

Edit 2: Paul, check your math, 73% is incorrect

IIRC DTRs site says his G2 is a 30% increase in power over aixiz acrylic.

Edit: I actually like the lenses that come with copper modules. They work great for lower power builds where getting every last mw isn't a priority. There's no point to me in spending extra cash when there isn't a need for it, but it all really falls down to preference.

First of all, a lens that outputs 220 mW is 73% lower than a lens that outputs 382 mW. Or, put more accurately, the 382.6 mW is a 73% increase over the 220 mW lens. Secondly, these lenses don't cost anywhere near $15.00. If you email Techood and offer $50.00 for 10 I think they would go for it. The lenses that are 30% less are the 2 to 3 element lenses over the G-2 lenses. I just finished comparing these acrylic lenses against the Techood lenses and they give a 42% decrease in power. This was with the LPC-840 set to output 382.6 mW with the Techood lens against the single element lenses that are included with the modules we all buy. I would rather spend $5.00 more to get a 73% increase in power, but that's just me. It seems like a small price to pay for the increase in power and they also give a better divergence over the single element acrylic lenses too.

382 × .73 = 278.86

Thanks for the correction Cali, your math is better,
Sorry Paul

I use them on 150mW 405nm and 826 diodes. Some of my more special pens with an 826 set higher get a better lens. I actually tried to contact Eitan after all the stuff want down to see if he had any of his lenses left that he would sell me but got no response.

Paul is right, 73% of 220mw is 160mw. 220+160=380mw

I was always under the impression that those number when compared to "aixiz" they were referring to the plastic lens that came with the aixiz modules like the ones DTR sells. Good to know!

Edit: Paul: I'm getting confused since alot of threads specifically state aixiz acrylic when comparing to other lens ie g2, 3 element..
http://laserpointerforums.com/f50/3-element-glass-lens-vs-normal-aixiz-lens-630-660nm-80931.html

Regardless the acrylic are good to have around, you never know when they're needed. It's all preference really. I see alot of people still to this day that prefer to use acrylic on smaller builds.

If they are comparing acrylic lenses they are probably the multi-element lenses. I always took the 30% back three years ago to mean the multi-element lenses. As you can see from my comparison the single element lenses are worse than 30%. Also, the AR coating will make a difference too.

I don't remember ever seeing that much loss from one of those lenses. I'll check tomorrow on one of my 826 builds that hit 400mW with a G2 and see what I get. It's not always about power for my choice of lens. What I mean is I have at least 20 826 builds and after measuring their outputs with a G2 I then usually install an acrylic because the output is still decent and the cost adds up when you have as many builds as I do. In some cases i look at an acrylic as a placeholder. Because I like beams pretty much all of the class 4 lasers I own other than something like a bdr have a 3-element installed after doing that same power test and labeling the laser for danger potential. I'm not really into burning stuff so I don't need to use a G type but of course I can put one on in a moment if I want.
All of my single mode builds other than the really cheap ones have at least an Eitan lens on them because the beams are already nice so there's no reason for a 3 El and I'm not interested in the power loss of an acrylic on such nice diodes. I've built every single mode that Jordan sells over this past 6 months or so mostly into pen units. Although I tend to push those diodes they are generally in the 100-400mW range and beg for a nicer lens to go with thin divergent beams at full output.
Would love to have another 10 more lenses like Eitan was selling. He would sell me 12 for $50. I still have a few waiting for me to finish the builds I have parts for. I don't remember how good those S1 lenses were and although I had bought some in the past that was quite awhile ago. Would be nice to get another 10 G2 wannabe lenses for $50 or less.
I always tell people if they are going to buy a complete module from Jordan to get the G2 because you will get a discount on it and then buy a 3 element seperately if it needs it. I'm dissapointed that they are $30 each. Seems way over priced to me but he does have to make a profit and I don't have a clue what they are wholesale.

Pman, I'd appreciate another comparison. I took my time doing this one and there is no way I could be off by much. I used my Radiant as it is the only one I have that I can data log with. I was as surprised as anyone that I got 220 mW out of the same laser I got 382 mW on. I have put it all away, or I'd do it again with a different LPM, but I didn't think it would be off by much, if at all.

I'm in bed now and going to sleep soon but I'll test it out in the morning. Just seems like too much of a drop to me. I have both a TEC and an Ophir. The TEC is actually really accurate with lower output stuff. Starts to get off the higher the output but that's to be expected. Nice that it agrees so well with my Ophir as just in case something goes wrong I have a working backup.
Happen to have a direct link to those lenses you are talking about with the offer? How close are they to an actual G2? Man I wish I had bought way more of the ones Eitan had. Really like them for the price. I know people don't like to hear his name but I'm just talking about lenses that have nothing to do with the rest of what went down. No idea who his connections were for all the stuff he bought.

Hi Pman,
I ordered a lens from a China seller a while back to try, it's a single element glass lens and had the exact box splash my g2 lens from DTR does. I don't have an LPM but this lens seems close if not as powerful as the DTR g2. It was $8

That was a great group buy and I think everyone, with the possible exception of Alaskan, would have bought more at the time. Alaskan bought somewhere near 100 lenses. The price was great and It was the shipping that was high, so if you bought a lot, they cost you less. The Techood lenses are the ones I was referring to and I think they are selling for about $70.00 for 10 on eBay. But, I'm sure you have contacted them outside of eBay as I have and they will give you a better deal that way. The barrels are a bit shorter than the GB ones, but they are close to the same output, at least on certain wavelengths.

Same here, but it was right when all that was at it's peak. I even tried to grab some of those G9s that he supposedly had tons of. He said that he would send some to me and that I could pay him after I got them. But of coarse that didn't happen. I wish that I had been here when that GB happened for those lenses! I would've snagged a hand full.

We sold 357 lenses in that GB, not including the ones Eitan got for himself. I got about 10 or 15 myself. Wish I had bought more now.
