Looking for a well made and reliable RED laser poi

Hey all!

I own a techlasers Infinti 95mw, WL Advanced 35mw (which is a NICE, solid laser.. rated at 55mw) and had a WL Pulsar P125.
My Pulsar was stolen at a party and I need to replace it. I can't do DealExtreme as they no longer ship the high powered lasers to the states, and do not want to make one myself as the laser needs to be reliable. While I cherish my lasers, i beat them up. They're always with me (in cases) and have been to many raves and festivals, and endured countless hours of laser dancing, and many drops onto concrete. The WL lasers have endured all my punishment without any problems or beam quality issues. The techlasers, and my friends DX greenies, have NOT.

So my question, where can I find a high powered >100mW RED laser that is built as solidly as my Pulsar and Executive Advance? I've seen DX and Kaidomain lasers in person, and they are poorly constructed and not built to last. The buttons are shaky, springs are weak and need to be adjusted or replaced, and so on.

I don't consider making my own laser a possibility as the quality of construction has to be top knotch.

Help!!! I feel naked without a green in my left hand, and a red in my right :)

Did you get paid for this? I know ad men who don't cover a snow job so well.

Dave, no, and I know that this site, and the majority of the other laser pointer forums are very much anti-WL. Thats why I posted here to find a decent alternative.

I'm not "anti-WL." I'm anti-BS. You didn't just post looking for an alternative. You slammed the competition while exhorting the virtues of your choice. You took every available opportunity in your text (that I could easily identify) to inflate the WL while making equal effort to diminish the alternatives. You did it very effectively, but you did a sales job none-the-less.

Re: Looking for a well made and reliable RED laser

Can you point me in the right direction to find a nice red laser, then? Are there any other companies that make high powered reds aside from DX and WL?

I'm sorry that you considered my post a sales pitch, i was just trying to explain why build quality is important to me, specifically.

Re: Looking for a well made and reliable RED laser

If you want quality in a pointer style, I can build you a red in a host like this:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1217094699

I would say that 150mW's would be pretty good for this size host. (not a lot of heatsinking) You would probably want to use a 2 min. on/1 min off duty cycle too. If you want a Meredith acrylic module, the parts alone for such a build would be about $150. So you would have to pay about $275...

That then begs the question, "If WL has been so good to you AND their lasers are what you measure all other lasers by, why aren't you just shopping their site?"

Peace,
dave

P.S.  You DO realize that DX doesn't MAKE anything, right?  I believe, neither does WL.

Yeah, DX doesn't make them.
I don't believe WL does either. There made somewhere in china.

For a red, I say just make your own. Or if you want, by one from WL. People say they give out under spec lasers. Might be true, but for a red laser, you cant get anything much better built than WL. (pointer style that is) There is those high powered ones though.

Yea, I'd say just buy another pulsar or ask one of the more experienced members that have access to machinery to build you a solid one. :-/

Btw, DX and WL are in China.DX gets lasers from many different suppliers, most (or all) of them from China also.I don't know where WL get their parts from but I'm pretty sure they at least assemble them.

Re: Looking for a well made and reliable RED laser

Any laser you "build" is going to be prone to the same flaws and strengths of a WL. Especially red. It's a diode in a module. hooked directly to the batteries on a WL. At least with one's that are built here, you'll have some regulation. Yes, your looking for something teenie and skinny, but I could build ya a 300mw red in my barrels and it would be a hell of a lot better than any product from WL.

Man, I'm never typing anything when I've just woke.  DAVE.

I'd be more than happy to send you a bare one instead of that anodized baby. I'm anxious to see what folks build with these.

All those late hours doing homework.  Have to take care of the kiddo's in the evening, which leaves night as the only time to do homework.  Usually getting to bed around....3 A.M. - 4 A.M.  I get out of bed and lay down on the couch and keep my ears open for any incidents with my kids, and kinda nod off and on for a few hours.

During the week where the kiddo's have to get up to go to school, and I've got to be in class, I don't get much chance to sleep in so I catchup during the weekend. Sometimes I question my timing and choice in attending college with my kids so young.
