After doing some research, and finding out that 638 nm is extremely visable and not as expensive as 589nm (which i was originally looking at for my PewPew cosplay prop,) Do any of you fine people have a recomendation as to where/which model of the 638nm module i should use.

I am looking for a some-what visable 638nm with a momentary on function, it can be in a pen host, or it can be a module that i wire up myself. Also, as far as the power i want to keep it to a class 3R laser no higher, thank you!

Any bit of help would be great thanks.

Seeing as you mentioned 589nm - are you hoping that 638nm is very orange, sort of close to 589nm? Because it isn't - and only looks even slightly orange when you have it next to 650nm, otherwise it just looks red. It is a good chunk brighter than 650nm though!

Perhaps something like this? All you need to do is add a momentary on switch and some batteries (Two regular AAs in series should do).

635nm 5mW Laser Module 12x30mm, AixiZ

actually ironically it was the fact that i thought the beam from Pew Pew in fallout New vegas was a orange/yellow, when in fact the beam is Orange-Red (635/638) and the muzzle flash is a orange/yellow, This muzzle flash could be done with some orange+yellow led's, and the beam i want as visable as possible so i figured why not go 635/638, Orange though cool is not quite in my price point at this very moment if you catch my drift.

Edit: Thanks for the recomendation!

Ahh I see, that makes sense! The beam still isn't going to be all that visible at 5mW, at least not without plenty of fog and perhaps low lighting conditions too.

Yes, orange isn't available to most of us for that same reason ;)

The single mode 120mW ocarlo diode from DTR is a real nice beam. However, I'm not sure how under driven you can go to get only 5mW. Maybe email Jordan And ask him. He can set the driver for you if it's possible and you can pick up a c6 host from Survival Lasers for 16$.

any way you can point me in a direction for shots and comparisons? The more visable it is, the better, but if the modules differ that much from being at the same mW output, must be saying something.

Do you mean 650 compared to 638? If so try a search I can recall at least a couple side by sides. Keep in mind 5mW red isn't very bright. I doubt you could see the beam without heavy fog. I could do a spot comparison but all my reds are over 250mW.

What are your wanting to use this laser for?

Here's a review of my 637nm Dragonlasers Viper rated at 50mW. The beam is easily visible in the dark, and the dot it projects is stunningly radiant. At this power level, while definitely still red, most people who see it feel that it is orangish.

This is NOT a laser that you should be shooting at people however. This has enough oomph to it to seriously hurt someone's eyes.

Hope this helps you!

It does very much so! I have no intention of aiming it at people. I really just want it as close to the real deal as possible. a Safety swtich will be added just for that extra safety feature.

I meant if i were to go with the 5mW axis vs the other 120mW module you recomended. It is being used as a cosplay prop for conventions/holloween. I plan on not shooting it unless i am on stage or asked to by people, in which case i would more than likely shoot at the wall. More than likely i won't be firing it unless its around my house, or showing it off to people at the con. Most people are looking at looks vs functionality ya know? I'm guessing if it was over 5mW at a convention i would have to disclose that to the security before walking in *scratches head,* that sounds rough to deal with.

Really rhough, something about 20mW in 635nm should be sufficient for your needs. Keep me posted!

I have one single mode from dtr at 200mw i put it in a heat sink and just by luck allinged it with my air soft pistol( i don't shoot competivilly and its a 1911.)

The reds use much less juice then green diodes.

might wanna keep that in mind.

200mw is bright as heck 50mw should be plenty.

I gotta buy a 650 red 200 mw to use that for star pointing( I don't like using green)

I bought one from O-Like for I think 14.00 shipped.

You could buy a simple 5mW module from ebay for 5 bucks and drive it with the same supply you drive your lights with.
