Laser wont burn anything

I got a laser with these specs


Wavelengh 808nm ClassIV
Power Output 1W
Dot Shape Clost to TM00 model in Dot Shape (dot size is adjustable by turning the Focusring)
Divergence <2.5mrad at beam aperture
Beam Style CW
Circuit ACC
Working Voltage DC=3.7V Trigger
Working Current I<2.3A
Duty Circle 30 seconds (recommended)

and i cannot light a match or pop a balloon or anything. I figured anything over 200 mw would burn.

1) do you have 808nm Laser Safety Goggles....:thinking:
2) have you focused the Laser;s beam using a CCD camera
or similar viewing device..:thinking:
3) have you tested the actual output power of your Laser
on a Laser Power Meter...:thinking:

I had a 200mw laser a while back which was able to light a match after holding it for a while and was able to burn my skin pretty quick. This wont do it no matter how long.

I am very new to lasers so i dont have any testing equipment or anything

I did adjust the focus lens of the laser but that did not help. It made the dot bigger though.

I've heard rumor of them declining, but nothing like a total dud laser. If it's focusable you should try looking at it's dot through a cell phone camera and focusing the dot to as small as possible using the focus ring, if it is not focusable try holding what you're trying to burn 4-6in away, seems like I heard somewhere that most IR or NIR lasers were focused to 4-6in unless focused by a ring.

This is something very serious ... IR laser (invisible beam) class IV (> 500 mW) is very very dangerous and you MUST have safety goggles for this wavelength. :tsk::tsk: IR lasers may be invisible but can still cause instant damage to vision and are even more dangerous than visible laser because your blink and aversion reflexes don't work if you can't see the beam.
