Hey guys, I hope you can help me because i'm very sad... :cryyy:

I Recently bought a 200 mW Red Laser Pointer on DX an after waiting 1 and a half month I finally received it. I putted in the batteries, and it was soo bright I couldnt even look straight at the point... I was super happy, having finally my Laser.

I tried a lot with my laser, things as burning some things, engraving wood, and lighting matches etc.

But then 3 days later, only 3 days, it felt out of my Pants on the ground.
Now it doesn't work anymore, there isn't any light point... The batteries are still working, I tested them... And everything seems intact but it still doesn't work.

Maybe the diode is broken? And how can I test the diode? And how does he has to look normally, so I can compare.

I'm very sad...

I hope you can help!

It's possible you damaged the diode. However the most likely culprit is the driver or the connections do the diode itself. Could have broken a solder joint, sheared a pin off the diode, etc. There really isn't any way for any one to give any real advice until you give more info.. which means taking it apart and looking for damage or taking pictures of it's internals and posting them here.

Other than that, it's like calling a mechanic on the phone and telling him your car won't start, and expecting him to be able to tell you exactly what's wrong with it over the phone, just by that one little bit of information. It's just not going to happen.

So I 'll have to buy a whole new laser or can you buy somewhere a new diode ?

take it apart and post the pics, then people will be able to diagnose the problem and help you :)

Sure you can open it and replase the diode and adjust the potmeter inside to adjust the current i guess you have the Dilda from DX 200mW red ? ( High-Power 200mW Red Laser Pen (Burns Match + Visible Beam Daytime)

As they have say, probably the diode is broken. Lasers are quite fragile.

You should treat it better, because for a fall, which is what happened to you, you run out of laser.

You could try to open the circuit, and probably the diode is good, and maybe just a cable is have disconnected. But if the diode is dead, the laser will be a crap. And you should buy other. :S With a little luck, probably just has broken a weld, or a internal coupling. ; )

Lucky friend!

Actually diodes themselves are generally fairly sturdy, as far as shock goes. especially open cans, since the diode window getting broken or dislodged is about the only real shock related damage that could happen to the diode itself unless you were just TRYING to damage one. The connection of the driver to the diode pins is usually where damage occurs. Strong shock will usually make the driver move or twist relative to the diode heatsink unless both are well secured(which they usually aren't in cheap lasers. The drivers usually are 'floating'), and this can either shear the pins off the diode, or break the solder joints.

Do I have to cut everything apart for the pictures or is it good enough if I just screw it apart?

just unscrew it so it reveals the driver board and diode. You shouldn't have to cut your way in. It depends on what laser you have, you can always post pics on what you have.

Maby start off posting a picture of the outside so we can see just what model you have.
then you shouldn't have to cut any thing but it could be more than you would like to do to get it apart, maby you will have to send it to someone to have it looked at.

Ow sorry, YES indeed its that one!!!

Before posting some pictures, I can already say that everything inside looks intact also the pins or stiil on the diode... and http://i46.tinypic.com/xfz474.jpg thats exactly how it looks if you look inside from the top...

Well if a diode is broken than it is broken 4 ever because that would be like brain surgery so difficult or maybe a member here can give 1 last hint if not then i assume the diode is dead and the story ends here... to bad

Of course it looks like that. That's a laser diode. (though I know where that particular pic came from, and that particular diode is F'd)

You can't see the driver or anything from this side.. The driver and pins will be on the OTHER side of the diode, inside the body of the laser.
