There should be a beam. They are suprisingly bright for their power level. Even with my 1mW fired up, if I look down the beam I can see it easily in a dark room without smoke or anything. Pretty neat!!

lol even with aerosol spray i didnt see much of a beam. it had some kind of metal sheilding over the tube that i couldnt remove so i sold it. it wasnt any use to me since i couldnt do what i wanted to.

i wanted to make a accent lamp deal to sit beside my ps3 and 2 360's but it was encased in that metal shell i couldnt get off.... :'( as for who i sold it to, well they'll have to tell you if they want to post but it was another member from lpf.
