Hello All,

First of all thanks for the membership. You can call me a Electronic Guru. I currently work in the electronic field with PLCs and servo systems. I joined this forum to learn more about lasers.

I recently purchased a LITEON DVD 24X RW/ W " MODEL IHAS324" . I pulled the LAser DIode out and was trying my hardest to find a pin out for this diode. The diode is not like the common can diodes. THis diode has a heat sink built around it. I want to start using this diode but dont want to short it out by not connecting it properly. The middle Lead is common with the case. This diode has three leads coming out from the back of it. The leads are in a straight formation.

Thanks for all your support.

^ I'm not sure that'll help nail the configuration as,

I think you'll be safe(ish), now you know the case pin. Case pin is normally negative in reds and if the, 'other', pin is connected at all it's usually to a photodiode inside. If you get no light, then it's probably the photodiode or non connected pin! Although its valuable getting to grips with extraction, my advice would be to find a 5.6mm package, (the package designation escapes me just now), and use those. It's just hit and miss otherwise and the 5.6ers at least fit into a module with a lens.

Good luck with it and if you find the pinouts then post them in ths thread! (with pics please!) As an electronics guru you might be able to find an identifying notch or other marking that can orientate the diode is the heatsink symmetrical? Not one that will become a mainstay though I fear. ;)

[EDIT: Ooo, post 1064! One more step to green then!]

Thanks Jupiter !

Now I'll just look at the identification of the mold at match it to yours. Do you know what the other pin is for ? Maybe Infrared for CD R ? Do you still have a diode like this one ? Can you show me the correct circuit for it ? Maybe at 200ma.... ?

Thanks again !
