I've learned a lot in the past few weeks.... i fried 3 diodes ya i know im an idiot but, i finally came to my senses i just ordered an lpc-815 sled already have a driver set to 350Ma i wanna be safe so i'm going low But what voltage should i use what type of battery do you recommend I want opinions!:D or FACTS you choose and am i doing anything wrong.

I'd say it depends on what you're doing with it. If its a handheld, I prefer the 18650 batteries but if its a labby this is a pretty cheap and simple way to go.

  • make sure you short out the driver outputs (without the supply connected) before connecting to the LD!

  • Do not operate the driver without a load connected!

  • Take neccesasry ESD countermeasures.

  • Groove2 is a linear* driver with a Input Voltage Range:= Between VOut+1.2V and 12V the ideal source would be 2x lithium ion batteries, 16340's is a great example

Have fun and use protection :p

Thank you all for the replies i took every bit of info and put it to good use one more thing would it be bad to use a 9v battery cause thats all i have!!??

you might be able to get away with it. main problem is that the battery might not be able to supply enough current. so your power might be reduced, but its not bad for the diode. get two lithiums (3.7v) they should be able to supply enough current and they will last longer between charges.

It will work

Input Voltage range: More than Vout + 1.2V and less than 12V

And Vout for a LPC at 350mA would be around 3V's.

so 3V + 1.2V = 4.2V minimum and less than 12V's so 9V would work, not for too long tho.
