I have purchased a 650 nm 100mw diode, but on looking at the specs ,it says 3.2v at 100ma at duty of 1 minute on 5 secs off with the heat sink .so I emailed seller and he said it's correct but only recommends 30/40 ma so I said your specs are all over the place so asked him to check his dioed and he got back to me saying at 3.2 v it pulls 190 ma .it's made me not trust the specs at all now .I have a module that I use for testing my leds which lets me set v out and current out and reads the watts ,volts,ma, and protects against over current once I set the module so in effect I can read all the parameters as I hook the diode in .I'm good with leds and volts current etc ,but would like help on where to start with the volts and current input and how do I know with out popping the diode when I get to an optimal clean threshold for the diode .I know this is a hard one but any help at all would be appreciated.I'm new to lasers and specs but comfortable with the concept of them being current driven and quite a bit similar to leds in there running .

Best way really is to get a laser power meter and measure your watts output, than alter your milli amps in and collect the data points. Graph watts vs amps, on the graph where your slope starts to drop off is about where the sweet spot is, where it runs at it's highest efficient power before dropping off.

You'll either need an LPM, or a trustworthy data sheet.

Thanks for that so would you recommend a good Lpm I have already looked around and don't seem to see any for sale .and to be safe should I put the 3.2 v in and start at 50 ma and run the ma in from that point up but hold the voltage constant .

The laserbee or ARG's LPM would do the job.
Both of those are made by members here you can contact

I don't have a link for the diode it was purchased from a uk supplier through a local shop and the retailer just said he can only go from what his suppliers tell him which is total crap I think .I will have to try test best way possible I wish I had gone for a more reliable reatailer with a 100% true data sheet .all I know is if that's true is I need to input 3.2 v and then I just up the ma till well till I dont know around 100 ma hopfully 120/150 .god knows any uk reliable or worldwide reliable sorces I'd love a link to them .please

is it a closed can or open can ?? I run mine off 4.5 V (3 AAA's) and run it at 250ma
Could you take a pic of the diode ?

Click on go advanced and click on the paperclip, the pic is too big you have to resize or upload it to a hosting site like photobucket and copy the url and paste it in here
