How do ii protect my diode from static

If its for storage/shipping/handling during assembly of something (the only times you would be particularly worried about static), just short it out. Piece of foil across the legs or whatever the anode/cathode are should do the trick. That way, even if you get a potential across the anode/cathode, almost all of it will favor the "path of least resistance" - whatever you're shorting it out with instead of your highly sensitive diode.

Can you explain the situation better? Is this a diode array? A diode in a laser pointer you have? c mount? etc? If its a raw diode like an array, c mount, or can and its not hooked up to a circuit, you just short out its connections for protection. If its in a circuit, a tantalum capacitor across the terminals can help, but you really shouldn't need to worry about static if its already built into something.

Agreed. If you are talking about protecting it from static while you are working ona DIY project, for example a Blu-ray, it would be a good idea to ground yourself while working on it. You can get a cheap disposable grounding strap (3M brand ) from most electronics shops (or Fry's Electronics if near you) for $1.50, or a better one for a few dollars. If not, wrap some exposed copper wire around your wrist and ground it to something, such as a cold water pipe. Another thing I do is keep those anti-static bags that PC parts come in, you know the bluish metallic looking plastic bags. I then re-use them for keeping/shipping sensitive devices.

its just a raw diode, in no case, my laser hasnt been built yet, im waiting for kenom's next run of his GB barrels, and i want to keep my diode safe for that time

Just do what desslok said, while you wait for the barrel, store the diode in an antistatic bag, and when you start building your laser, wear an antistatic wrist strap any time you handle your laser diode, or just tie a cable to your wrist and attach the other end to the back of your pc.  ;)

For storage, pretty much the best thing you can do is short out the electrodes. just stick some foil across it or wrap it in foil like gazoo suggested. After that, you can also stick it in an anti-static bag if you have a spare from some static sensitive part you've bought in the past (I generally save them when I get them, they're always useful for something)

do i have to get 2 anti static wrist straps (one for each hand) or do i just need one?

Prior to handeling any diodes i like to kick up the humidity with a 20$ humidifyer, at 100% humidity static is non existant. One strap is efficient enough, ground is ground.

Lots of IC's come with their pins stuck into black conductive foam blocks- you could stick 2 or 3 diodes in one block for storage, or tear off a small piece for one diode (which can be left in place while soldering leads to the diode- just use a pair of needle-nose pliers or tweezers to pull the foam out after soldering).
