Hello, i recently built this RED 250mw for just 14$ with a module from ebay, i measured laser power with IR thermometer method and turned out it is ~231mw powah(im almost sure its coupled IR with red diode and real red is much less than that). The housing is a cheap-o flashlight with a 2 HDD motor rotors as a heatsink :D  Runs on 3 alkaline batteries (FAIL) its consuming 222 ma and the voltage drops ALOT. must get lithium Link to laser ! http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Power-250mW-Focusable-Laser-Module-Battery-Case-/231175789434 Post a comment of what You think of my homemade laser :)

I would actually love to own that laser!

Well done!
Haha, thanks ! i didnt had anything round that is made from alumunium so decided to use 2 rotors, a lil bit of drill work and sandpaper and turned out to be pretty nice and slim :D

I really like the home made, do it yourself type builds for next to nothing, well done.
This weekend just gone I did a few myself, extracted some great LOC diodes and couldn't believe my luck when got one of them to output just over 400mW when it was wired up outside the little hobby box.
Got it all in there and did a quick test before closing it up and killed the diode.
Was running at 550mA outside the box, so checked it again and it was showing 1.32A this time.

I still don't know how the hell it was showing 550mA, then over 1A without changing the battery source or moving the pot.

I guess I'm still a noob and will be for a while.

I'll get over it, maybe

Yup, me too, thats IS actually best part, the process of making something yourself and in the end see it performing and looking good ! :D hahaha, yeah, i know that feeling, i fried 2 100mw laser modules by running them at very low voltage :D

Well all the best of luck to you mate, they're a big jump from the little reds.

Yup, i have respect for them now, i was hit directly by 95 mw Mitsubishi red laser, had a foggy spot in left eye for a weeks, now its alot better tough, almost gone. A lil research and i came to conclusion it should fully dissapear after few months.

Instead of the conclusion being .......wear laser glasses?

Ok.

Awesome job! Love that creativity. +rep

I don't think those multimode reds wil put out both red and ir at same time. I could be wrong, but I think they are either all red, or all ir, depending how they are wired and driven. So your output should be pure red.
